Eddie Alvarez is hoping to get the details of his next ONE Championship fight worked out soon.

The Florida-based American was part of a joint press conference involving ONE and Amazon in Los Angeles last week, and during a question-and-answer session, revealed he intended to stay in the city to figure out his next fight with the promotion.

“That’s why I’m in L.A.,” he said. “We’re gonna figure this out while I’m here.”

Alvarez, who previously held the UFC and Bellator lightweight titles, joined the ONE roster in 2018 to massive fanfare. However, his time with the promotion has not gone the way he planned.

In his first fight under the ONE banner, he was knocked out by Timofey Nastyukhin in the first round. He then rebounded with a submission win over Eduard Folayang, only to have his next fight, against Iuri Lapicus, end with a no contest.

Alvarez’s most recent fight was in April 2021, when he lost a competitive decision to South Korea’s Ok Rae-yoon in a lightweight No 1 contender fight. Ok went on to win the title from Christian Lee in his next fight.

Despite his struggles in ONE, Alvarez remains one of the biggest stars on its roster, and he figures to be a valuable tool as the Asian martial arts promotion continues its push into the American market through its new broadcast deal with Amazon’s Prime Video.
