ONE Championship 161 went down on Thursday evening inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and the event was a solid starter ahead of Saturday’s blockbuster ONE on Prime Video 2 card.

Headlining honours for the event went to a featherweight Muay Thai title fight between defending champion Petchmorakot Petchyindee and challenger Tawanchai PK. Saenchai, one of the top fighters in the sport.

The event also included the opening round of ONE’s heavyweight kickboxing Grand Prix, as well as an interesting atomweight MMA clash between India’s Ritu Phogat and Singapore’s Tiffany Teo. Khabib Nurmagomedov protégé Saygid Izagakhmaev also returned to action on the main card, taking on Chinese veteran Zhang Lipeng.

Tawanchai wins title with thrilling defeat of Petchmorakot

Thai stars Tawanchai PK.Saenchai and Petchmorakot Petchyindee put on a show in the ONE 161 main event, trading punches, kicks, knees and elbows at a frenetic tempo for five wild rounds.

By the time the fight was over it was clear that fans would be divided on their scores, but all three Circle-side judges ultimately gave the fight to Tawanchai.

The 23-year-old is now the ONE featherweight Muay Thai champion, and inarguably one of the best fighters in the entire sport.

Petchmorakot, meanwhile, will need to adjust to life as a contender after a near 1000-day reign as champion.
