ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong has shed some light on the next move for Angela Lee, but it will all depend on Ham Seo-hee’s recovery timeline.

Lee, the promotion’s atomweight champion, returned to the Circle in the main event of ONE on Prime Video 2 last Saturday in Singapore, challenging strawweight champion Xiong Jingnan in a bid for a second title.

Despite a gutsy effort, the 26-year-old Canadian-American lost the fight, falling to 0-3 at strawweight in the process.

After the loss, all signs point to Lee (11-3) returning to atomweight to defend her title. South Korea’s Ham, 35, has long stood out as the next woman in line for that opportunity, however, her status has been somewhat mysterious since a March decision win over Denice Zamboanga.

“I think Ham had a knee injury – a knee surgery or something, if I’m not mistaken,” Chatri told the Post after Saturday’s event in Singapore, bringing some clarity to her situation. “That’s why she’s been out. She was offered a couple of fights, but she couldn’t and that’s why she got surgery.”
