ONE Championship on Prime Video 4 is in the books.
The nine-fight card went down on Saturday morning at Singapore Indoor Stadium, with a 9am local start time.
In the main event, lightweight MMA champion Christian Lee added a second belt to his collection, scoring a fourth-round TKO over Kiamrian Abbasov. Abbasov was the welterweight champion until he was stripped of the title for missing weight on Thursday night.

In the co-main event, flyweight Muay Thai champ Rodtang Jitmuangnon picked up a fourth impressive title defence, dominating strawweight champion Joseph Lasiri to a lopsided unanimous-decision win.
Filipino bantamweight mixed martial artist Stephen Loman also picked up a big win on the card, outfighting former champion Bibiano Fernandes to a decision win in a fun fight.
American grappling star Danielle Kelly picked up a nice win too, submitting debuting Russian Mariia Molchanova at atomweight on the lead card.

Christian Lee is now a two-division MMA champion after scoring a fourth-round TKO win over Kiamrian Abbasov at Saturday morning’s ONE on Prime Video 4 event in Singapore.

The music is pumping at Singapore Indoor Stadium, and the seats are starting to fill up nicely even though it’s barely 9am.

If you missed the dramatic news overnight, Ham Seo-hee has cancelled her ONE 163 fight with Itsuki Hirata, which was set for Saturday’s second card in the evening.
Japan’s Hirata failed hydration three times, with South Korean veteran Ham calling her “irresponsible”, and telling her she should feel “embarrassed”.

We’re about to get underway in Singapore, with a lightweight Muay Thai fight between Briton Liam Nolan and American Eddie Abasolo kicking things off.

Liam Nolan and Eddie Abasolo kick off 9-fight card

After a pair of rousing walk-outs, American Eddie Abasolo and Briton Liam Nolan are in the Circle for their lightweight Muay Thai contest – our first fight of the day.
They waste no time getting into it, swapping kicks and punches in the centre of the cage. A sweep from Nolan gets a big pop from the crowd, and so do the high kick and left hook that follow it. It might be 9am but you wouldn’t know it.
A strong first round for Nolan, who is using his length and size advantages well.

A strong first round for Nolan

Round two begins and Nolan’s coaches – who are loud enough to be heard over the din of the crowd – want kicks and teeps from their fighter. Nolan obliges their requests.
The kicks are working well for the Brit, who is staying outside his foe’s range with great effectiveness.
Abasolo ties things up against the cage, but they break quickly. Another good round for Nolan.


Nolan still in control

Round three begins with a loud USA chant from a pro-Abasolo crowd – but the American definitely has some catching up to do. He is fighting with greater urgency, and initiates the clinch three times inside the first minute.
“Let them hands go,” Nolan’s coaches scream – but it’s more clinching from Abasolo.
Nolan again looks to his high kicks, but Abasolo walks through them, and initiates another tie-up. This strategy will probably not be enough to steal the fight.
The final round ends and both men are dripping blood as we await a decision.


Abasolo pushes back in the third

As expected, Circle announcer Dom Lau reveals a unanimous decision win for Nolan.
“It was trickier than I thought,” the Briton tells commentator Mitch Chilson as his vanquished foe walks by the press pen with blood trickling from his brow. “I was surprised, I didn’t think he would want to clinch with me.”
Nolan leaves the cage to another big pop from the crowd, who are clearly ravenous for action despite our early start time.



Nolan wins decision

Next up is an atomweight submission grappling match between American BJJ black belt Danielle Kelly and Russian sambo champion Mariia Molchanova.
Molchanova walks out to Eye of the Tiger by Survivor and Kelly chooses Iron Man by Black Sabbath. The crowd responds well to both.
The two grapplers have 10 minutes to settle this one, though a submission could end things much more quickly.

It’s time for some submission grappling.
Kelly gets things going with a guard-pull, and Molchanova shows no fear, diving into top position. This is clearly what Kelly wanted. The American sneaks onto her Russian foe’s back and begins attacking with a rear-naked choke.

“Lift the forehead and go for the choke,” Kelly’s cornerman Enrique Galarza yells from cage-side. Kelly follows his advice, and attacks.
Molchanova stands with Kelly still on her back, fights the choke for a moment, slams the action to the mat in desperation, and taps. Just like that it’s over.

Dom Lau announces Kelly’s win, and the American breaks down her win with commentator Mitch Chilson.
“She pulled me into closed guard,” she says. “In my transition, I just had to push her elbow a bit, then I took her back.”
“Once she slammed me, that’s when the choke sunk in,” she adds. “I really wanted the submission. People doubted me. I wanted to show them I could finish matches.”
The sub is good for a US $50,000 bonus from CEO Chatri Sityodtong – Kelly’s second in as many fights in ONE.



Another bonus for Kelly

Ruslan Emilbek Uulu and Isi Fitikefu are up next for a three-round welterweight MMA fight.
Kyrgyzstan’s Emilbek Uulu will look to build on the momentum of a submission win over Ben Wilhelm in his last appearance, while the unbeaten Australian Fitikefu will be making his debut.

Emilbek Uulu and Fitikefu threw heavy leather for the bulk of round one, and that trend continues into the second, with both men landing often.
With less than two minutes left on the clock in round two, Isi drops Emilbek Uulu foe with a leg kick – but the Kyrgyzstani veteran pops right back up and they continue to trade heavy artillery until the round ends.
We’ve got a close one on our hands and the stakes are high heading into the final round.


Two close rounds in the books

The Post caught up with Liam Nolan backstage after his unanimous decision victory over Eddie Abasolo in the opening fight of the night.
Nolan admitted he was feeling sorry for himself after his loss to Sinsamut Klinmee, but that his coaching team quickly helped him snap out of it.

Both men are showing some urgency as we start the third round, with Fitikefu pressing forward, and Emilbek Uulu looking to counter with hooks and body kicks.
Around the half-way mark, a kick to the body lands from the Kyrgyzstani fighter, who then completes a takedown – perhaps the biggest moment of the fight so far in terms of scoring. They separate, but Emilbek Uulu, having seemingly discovered a grappling edge, lands another takedown with a minute left. This is big for him.
The final round ends to some cheers from a supportive crowd.
Dom Lau announces a split decision win for Emilbek Uulu, who has his hand raised with the red flag of Kyrgyzstan draped over his shoulders.
“I want to say a few things for my nation, thanks to all the fans who came here to support me,: he said. “I know I’m a lightweight, but I feel I’m very confident at welterweight as well, I can compete in both actually.”


Ruslan rallies for split decision

Jonathan Haggerty is up next, taking on Vladamir Kuzmin in a catchweight Muay Thai fight after he failed to pass hydration during Friday’s window.
After pulling out of his last two bouts at flyweight because of medical issues during fight week, “The General” had decided to move up to strawweight, but even that proved troublesome.
Let’s see what the former champ has got in store for Kuzmin.


The General is back

Fresh from winning a second-straight bonus, Danielle Kelly issued a challenge to Angela Lee.
The American wants to grapple the atomweight MMA champion, but feels there are also plenty of girls she could battle for an inaugural title in her division.

Jonathan Haggerty is struggling to find his rhythm here – but mostly because Vladimir Kuzmin won’t let him.
The Russian is causing the Briton problems, and fires off a teep kick just after the bell at the end of the first round.
Haggerty doesn’t like it, and gets in his opponent’s face.

Kuzmin eats a brutal head kick from Haggerty, who senses blood and comes forward early in the second round.
But Kuzmin seems fine, and looks happy to keep taking Haggerty’s hardest shots.
“The General” looking more comfortable, but he has got his work cut out here for sure.

Haggerty finding his flow

Haggerty’s corner are telling him to let his hands go in the third round – “don’t let him take it”.
They know this fight is close, and Kuzmin is walking him down with no fear.
The final 30 seconds sees both men let it rip, and the crowd show their appreciation after. Over to the judges.


Too close to call

Haggerty takes a majority decision against Kuzmin – and you can see the relief on his face.
“It was a tough fight, it could have gone either way, that’s just the way it goes,” Haggerty tells commentator Mitch Chilson in a post-fight interview. “He was a great opponent. I’m at bantamweight now, that’s what I can expect.
“I’m on top of the world, it’s just a blessing being in this organisation. I appreciate every one of you for coming out to support us athletes. The next one will be better, I promise as well.
“I told myself I wouldn’t come out here calling names, but I’ve been training for 16 years, fighting the best fighters in the world. I’m ready for No 1, 2, and 3, so let’s go.”



By the skin of his teeth

Up next is a bantamweight MMA clash between Kevin Belingon of the Philippines and Kim Jae-woong of South Korea.
Belingon, the former bantamweight champ, will be welcoming the former featherweight Kim to the weight class, and it looks like a great match-up on paper.
With both guys in the cage, it’s time to get down to business.

Both men get big pops from the crowd – evidence of strong Filipino and Korean contingents in the building – and both look fired up to fight.
It’s the bigger man Kim pressing the action early, but Belingon is returning fire with kicks. The Filipino then follows up with a takedown, and the crowd loves it.
They return to the feet, and things take a turn when Belingon is dropped by a vicious left hook. Kim pours on the ground-and-pound, and with over half a round remaining, it’s a bad spot for Belingon. Before long, the referee intervenes. It’s a TKO win for Kim.
Belingon returns to his feet, visibly distraught by the outcome.

A quick stoppage for Kim

“The General” Jonathan Haggerty speaks to the Post backstage moments after his majority decision Muay Thai win over Vladimir Kuzmin.
He admits he messed up on his hydration test this week, but promises it “won’t happen again” in his new home at bantamweight.

Next up is a welterweight Muay Thai clash pitting the UK’s Juan Cervantes against popular Brazilian Cosmo Alexandre.
It will be the first time we’ve seen Alexandre in action since he scored a brutal 29-second knockout win over Sage Northcutt under MMA rules in May of 2019.
Let’s see how the layoff affects him.


Cosmo returns for Cervantes fight

It’s Cervantes leading the dance early with several kicks to the legs and body — at least 15 or 20 before Cosmo throws anything significant back. Cosmo doesn’t seem deterred, and is pressing forward, but he needs to work if he wants to win.
With less than a minute left in the first, Cervantes is still racking up the strikes, while Cosmo is seemingly hunting for a single, knockout punch.
The action is paused after Cervantes lands a low blow. After a quick break, and a last-second Cosmo flurry, the fighters return to their stools before round two.



Cervantes kicking like crazy

Just when it looked like Cervantes was running away with the fight, Cosmo changed everything with his ridiculous knockout power.
It started with a short elbow in the opening moments of round two, and ended moments later when Cervantes could not recover.

Another Cosmo KO

Despite his stunning knockout win over Cervantes, Cosmo reveals he has fought his last fight.
“I believe this was my last fight,” he told Mitch Chilson after his knockout win was announced. “I’m happy to finish my career here. Thank you Chatri for everything.”
“All my preparation, I didn’t see myself winning this fight,” he added. “To finish my career that was amazing. Thanks for all these 20 years. I appreciate all the support.”
The 40-year-old will ride off to the sunset with a US$50,000 bonus in the bank.

Kim Jae-woong speaks to the Post soon after his impressive first-round TKO of former bantamweight MMA champion Kevin Belingon.
“The Fighting God”, as the South Korean is known, says his loss to Tang Kai here in March prompted his move down from featherweight, and motivated him to never let it happen again.

Former ONE bantamweight king Bibiano Fernandes – the most dominant champ in the promotion’s history – is back in the middle bout of the main card, taking on rising contender Stephen Loman at a 69.5kg catchweight after they both failed hydration tests.
Fernandes will look to be rebound from a title loss to Lineker, while Loman will look to assert himself as a top contender with a win over a living legend.


Bibiano returns against Loman

They are swinging early — to the point that it feels risky to blink. Loman lands with some kicks and punches, and Bibiano whiffs on a looping hook.
“I want straight shots, Bibi,” the Brazilian-Canadian’s coach Kultar Gill calls from Circle-side.
Loman lands a quick takedown, but Bibiano pops back up, and the firefight continues. Now it’s Fernandes landing with big punches.
Bibiano looks for a takedown, but Loman denies him, and turns the former champion around against the cage. They fight for position, and Bibiano takes control of the clinch with 30 seconds left. He dips down for a takedown, but it’s denied, and they break.
We end the round with more power shots in the centre of the Circle.



Coming out swinging

Bibiano comes out guns blazing in round two, stinging Loman with some big punches. But after a takedown is denied, the former champion finds himself pressed into the cage by his Filipino foe.
Fernandes then threatens with a choke, but Loman defends, and steals top position on the mat. This is a great fight, with every weapon in the MMA arsenal getting some use, and the fans inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium are loving it.
Bibiano threatens with an armbar, but it’s denied, and now Loman takes his back. Then it’s back to top position for Loman, who unleashes a tempest of ground strikes.
Bibiano works the butterfly guard, but can’t escape – and Loman refuses to relent with the ground strikes.
The round ends, and it’s back to the stools before the third.


Loman takes control in the second

“Final round,” Dom Lau reminds us from Circle-side.
Loman is mixing up his strikes very well early, and keeps Bibiano guessing with a nice takedown attempt – but its denied, and the Brazilian begins pushing the action.
“Keep backing him up,” Bibiano’s team yells. “Keep him guessing!”
It’s close on the feet, so Loman shoots for a takedown. Bibiano fights it off, but is then slammed to the canvas, and ends up with Loman on his back. They get back up, and it’s another slam for Loman. The Filipino contender is running away with this fight.
With a minute left, Loman is in top position, raining down ground strikes. Pro-Loman cheers fill the arena as he ends the fight in top position.
To the judges we go.

Loman’s momentum continues

Stephen Loman is announced the winner by unanimous decision to an explosion of cheers from the Filipino fans in the building.
“The game plan went well and I was confident in my striking in my wrestling,” he said. “He’s tough. He’s a legend of the sport.”
With the win, Loman is one of the top contenders in the featherweight division.
“I’ll wait for the title if they give me the chance,” he said.



UD for Loman

It was a tough night for Bibiano, but the 42-year-old isn’t ready to call it a career just yet.
“It was a good fight,” he said. “He’s a good kid.”
“I don’t want to retire right now – I’m hungry. I’ll keep going.”


Bibiano rules out retirement

The flyweight Muay Thai title is on the line next, as strawweight champion Joseph Lasiri of Italy hikes up a weight class to challenge Thailand’s Rodtang Jitmuangnon for a second belt.
Lasiri is out to a Michael Jackson remix, and Rodtang entertains fans with just the kind of high energy walk-out he’s become known for – complete with pyrotechnics and dancing.
With both champions in the ring, and the flyweight title hanging in the balance, it’s time to get this one underway. Five three-minute rounds or less.

Muay Thai champs in the Circle

The crowd is definitely excited for this one, and it’s easy to understand why.
The action begins with two low kicks from Rodtang, who is fighting out of the southpaw stance, then an inadvertent low kick from Lasiri. Rodtang brushes it off, and they trade overhands.
Lasiri is showing no fear, but it’s Rodtang pressing the action early – as is so often the case in his fights. He is trying to cut off the Circle, and it’s working. Lasiri is on his back foot, and while he’s letting the counters fly, this is a dangerous spot to be in against the Thai flyweight champion.
Onto round two.


A tense first round...

Rodtang is walking forward again in round two, and he lands a nice hook early, but Lasiri eats it. The Thai isn’t giving his Italian foe any room to breath. He knocks Lasiri to the canvas, but it looks like more of a push than a knockdown.
Just past the half-way point of the round, they tie up, and Rodtang lands an elbow in close, then dumps Lasiri. Lasiri is back up, but he eats a body shot and several sizzling punches to the head. He definitely has a chin on him.
He’s still in this fight, but he may need a change of strategy to win.


Rodtang turns it on

Round three begins, and it’s more of the same: Rodtang walking Lasiri down with hooks, elbows and kicks, and Lasiri doing his best to return fire.
Around the half-way mark, Rodtang lets loose with a few more nasty strikes, and showboats a bit. He waves Lasiri on, begging him to exchange in the pocket.
Lasiri obliges him, and while he is coming up short in most exchanges, he lands a few nice punches in the last 30 seconds.
The round ends, they exchange smiles, and return to their corners. They seem to be having fun in there.

More of the same

We’re in the championship rounds now, and both men are cranking up the offence – more hooks from Rodtang, and kicks and jabs from Lasiri. The Italian has landed some nice shots, but the Thai is winning this fight on damage and aggression.
A few more punches from Lasiri, but Rodtang eats them and sticks his tongue out in defiance. He pushes forward again, perhaps smelling blood in the water.
He chases Lasiri down against the cage, and drops him with a punch with seconds left on the clock. Referee Olivier Coste checks the strawweight champ, clears him to continue, and the round ends.
One more to go.

Vintage Rodtang in round 4

The two champions touch gloves as a sign of respect, but that’s where the bonhomie ends. Rodtang plows forward again. He is waving Lasiri on now, screaming at the strawweight champion. The crowd likes it, but it’s definitely getting pretty ugly for Lasiri.
Lasiri presses forward. Rodtang lets him – then drops him again. The Thai is loving the crowd response, and raises his hands to his ears to encourage them. He’s really toying with Lasiri now, showboating madly between vicious combinations.
Lasiri survives to the final round, which could be considered a moral victory, but he had no answers for the Thai in the Circle. We go to the judges, but this one is obvious.

Last round...

As expected, it’s a lopsided unanimous decision for the flyweight champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, who looks increasingly unbeatable in Muay Thai competition.
“And Still,” Dom Lau bellows, driving the crowd into a frenzy.

Abbasov comes out hot and has Lee on the back foot early. They’re exchanging hard. Lee tries for a single leg but no dice. The second time’s the charm though with a judo throw.
But Abbasov suddenly gets a huge knockdownafter 3 minutes, and Lee is on wobbly legs. He’s backing up and Abbasov is charging in. Referee Herb Dean taking a close look.
But Lee somehow stays in it, and recovers enough to get another takedown, and see out the round.

Lee in big trouble

Lee begins to impose his will a bit more in the second round, with Abbasov seemingly beginning to tire.
The former welterweight champ’s hands are low, his face is bruised, his mouth is open.
“The Warrior” is definitely back in this, as we close out round two.

He looks exhausted, but Kiamrian Abbasov is landing a lot in this third round.
Christian Lee is still fighting smart, but it doesn’t look like the has the power to put “Brazen” away, whereas Abbasov’s shots seem to be hitting harder.
But Abbasov’s face is looking the worse for wear, and we know Lee is a threat everywhere.

“He was the champ for a reason, very tough dude,” Lee says. “As you can see I left it all in the ring. I can hardy carry these two belts. I didn’t know where I was but I never quit, we find a way to come back.
“It’s the training – in the cage there’s no shortcuts, what you put in is what you get out. I’m telling you, these rounds were brutal.
“Abbasov is so tough, he’s got an extremely good chin and he made me dig deep, every last ounce of me to get that finish, so props to him.”
