INTRODUCTION

ONE Championship on Prime Video 5 is slated for Saturday morning in the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, and on Thursday evening, the 16 fighters set to compete at the event underwent their customary pre-fight weight and hydration tests.

Filipino-American Muay Thai star Jackie Buntan was the lone fighter on the bill to encounter issues, failing four hydration tests for her strawweight clash with England’s Amber Kitchen. She passed at the fifth attempt, around 1.10am local time.

Their fight will now need to be renegotiated at a catchweight of 130 pounds if it is to proceed, in which case Kitchen will also receive a portion of Buntan’s purse.

Every other fighter on the bill passed their pre-fight hydration tests and made weight, including light heavyweight MMA champion Reinier de Ridder, who is set to defend his title against interim heavyweight king Anatoly Malykhin in the card’s main event.

Both co-main event fighters, lightweight submission grappling champ Kade Ruotolo and his challenger Matheus Gabriel, also passed their tests.

So too did former two-division KSW champion Roberto Soldic, who is set to make his ONE debut against unbeaten Russian Murad Ramazanov on the event’s main card.

Atomweight Muay Thai champion Allycia Rodrigues, who is no longer set to compete on the card after her opponent Janet Todd tested positive for Covid-19, failed to pass her hydration test or make weight, but was only attempting to do so to collect her full show money.

Her coach Leo Elias of Phuket Fight Club also said they were trying to weigh in as a back-up, in case anyone else dropped off the card.

Here is how everything unfolded at Thursday’s weight and hydration tests at the Solaire Casino & Resort Manila.
