After a relatively calm Thursday night, there were more big fails at Friday afternoon’s official ONE Championship 164 weigh-ins and hydration tests in Manila. No fights have fallen off Saturday night’s card at the Mall of Asia Arena as of yet, but the seemingly cursed flyweight Muay Thai grand prix took one final hit, with both Panpayak and Superlek missing the mark. The two are likely to agree a catchweight, at least, for what will be a ninth fight in their storied rivalry, but it won’t be for the grand prix title. ONE on Prime Video 5: De Ridder vs Malykhin live results, highlights The tournament will end without a winner, in what is perhaps a fitting finale, given it has been plagued by injuries and withdrawals from the start. Jhanlo Mark Sangiao and L.A. Lauron will also still fight, despite the Filipino newcomer badly missing their original 150-pound agreement. Lauron, a runner-up on the recent ONE: Warrior Series Philippines reality television show, was 6.25lbs over. But Sangiao – son of the legendary Team Lakay head coach, Mark Sangiao – had no hesitation in accepting the fight, having made weight himself. He also refused to take any of Lauron’s fight purse, as he was entitled to, in a show of respect after the 31-year-old took the bout on only several days’ notice. Meng Bo was the other big miss. Having struggled to make atomweight, the Chinese star came in heavy again up a weight division. She did not provide a sample until five minutes before the 4pm deadline, wearing a bathrobe as she came in to test at the Solaire Casino & Resort. The 26-year-old failed hydration and was half a pound over in an unofficial check, and will have to return before a catchweight can be negotiated with Jenelyn Olsim. Meng Bo fails hydration (1.0295) with 3 mins to go. Weighs in unofficially 125.5 pounds. She’ll have to pass hydration to negotiate a catchweight with Jenelyn Olsim. #ONEChampionship pic.twitter.com/wDRcEtKr60 — Nicolas Atkin (@NicoSCMP) December 2, 2022 The good news, at least, is that the fight that matters most is still on. Strawweight MMA champion Joshua Pacio and American challenged Jarred Brooks both made weight without any problems, as did the rest of Team Lakay’s fighters on the card. Former heavyweight champion Brandon Vera and Amir Aliakbari are now likely to be promoted to the co-main event. Here are the full results from Friday’s official weigh-ins and hydration tests, as they happened.
