Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai is now 2-o against Sangmanee PK. Saenchai.
Kulabdam scored his second victory over his fellow Thai in the bantamweight Muay Thai main event of ONE Championship Friday Fights 2 in Bangkok’s hallowed Lumpinee Stadium. His first win over Sangmanee occurred in 2020, when he knocked his rival out with a left hand in the first round.
In the ONE Friday Fights 2 co-main event, Thailand’s Chalamkhao PK. Saenchai made a splash in ONE debut, picking up an impressive decision win over his countryman Pettong Kiatsongrit in a flyweight Muay Thai clash.
Earlier on the broadcast, bantamweight Muay Thai contender Pongsiri PK. Saenchai picked up an exciting decision win over Turkey’s Ferzan Cicek, while one-time Anissa Meksen opponent Marie Ruumet also picked up her first ONE win on the card, defeating Thai-Ngan Le by decision.

Kulabdam picked up his second victory over fellow Thai Sangmanee in the headliner of ONE’s Friday night event in the famed Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok
Earlier on the card, bantamweight contender Pongsiri defeated Ferzan Cicek by decision, while several promising contenders made their ONE debuts

We’re just over one hour away from the start of ONE Friday Fights 2.
First up, we have a bantamweight MMA clash between Jakub “Superjoke” Wayman and Riccardo Cantindig-Stagg, from the United States and United Kingdom respectively.
That will be followed by a catchweight Muay Thai clash between Estonia’s Marie “Snow Leopard” Ruumet and Vietnamese-American Thai-Ngan Le. Stay tuned!


One hour away

The first fight of the night, a bantamweight MMA clash between Jakub Wayman and Riccardo Cantindig-Stagg is getting under way in moments.
The American Wayman has a great Muay Thai record and a pile of experience on the wrestling mats, and is off to a 1-o start in MMA.
Cantindig-Stagg, from the United Kingdom, trains out of Phuket Top Team in Thailand and is known for his striking. This is his pro debut, but he’s 3-1 on the amateur, per MMA database Tapology.


First fight kicking off

The American Wayman lands a takedown early in the first, and spends the entirety of the round in top position.
That trend continues into the second and third – though it was actually Cantindig-Stagg that initiated the ground fighting in both those rounds.
Wayman threatens with submissions at several points in the fight. He failed to get the tap, but ultimately finished it with a volley of ground strikes in round three.

Now 2-0 as a pro, he definitely has a lot of room to grow, but he looks like he could make some waves in ONE’s jam-packed bantamweight division.


Wayman stops Cantindig-Stagg

Next up is a 119-pound catchweight Muay Thai clash between Estonia’s Marie Ruumet and Vietnamese-American Thai-Ngan Le.
Ruumet’s last ONE fight was a decision loss to Anissa Meksen – arguably the best female striker in the world – but she’s since rebounded with a split-decision win over Aida Looksaikongdin outside the promotion.
Le is making her ONE debut.


Women’s Muay Thai on deck

It’s clear from the get-go that this one will come down to Ruumet’s range and accuracy vs Le’s power.
Both women have some success in round one, with Ruumet landing some nice kicks and straight punches at range, and Le landing in close with hooks and knees.
The tempo picks up in round two, but Ruumet seems to land more, using push kicks and straight punches and elbows to punish her foe. She hits the deck at the end of the round, but it was a slip, not a knockdown.

Le comes out aggressive in the third, perhaps sensing the fight is slipping away from her. That strategy serves her well, but Ruumet fires back with plenty of counters to keep herself in the fight.
In the end, Ruumet wins a unanimous decision that should position her for another big fight in ONE.


Ruumet sneaks by Le

Next up is a Muay Thai clash between Malaysia’s Elias Ghazali and Iraq’s Ayad Albadr.
Both men are debuting in ONE, and will be looking to make assert themselves as fighters to watch in the promotion’s crowded flyweight division.


Flyweights take centre stage

The crowd seem fired up for this fight. They’re loud enough that it’s hard to hear the commentators.
Albadr begins round with a dump. The two fighters spend the rest of the round trading strikes at range and in the clinch, with Ghazali advancing and Albadr fighting off the back foot. It’s a close one, but Albadr seems to be landing the harder shots as his foe advances.
They’re quick to resume exchanging in round two. Ghazali is the aggressor again, but Albadr is still firing back and landing. As the round progresses, Ghazali seems to take control with his forward pressure. Albadr punctuates the round with a clean elbow in the clinch.
This could come down to the third, and both men come out like they know it. Again, it’s Ghazali pushing forward, but Albadr is hammering the Malaysian with strikes as he advances. The Iraqi seems to have found his range. He suffers an eye poke but the action quickly resumes, and he closes out the round with an aggressive flurry.
It’s a close fight, but in the end, it goes to Ghazali by unanimous decision. Evidently, the judges like the pressure he applied.

There are only two MMA bouts on ONE’s second Lumpinee show, and the second, a middleweight clash between Harry “Kimura” Grech and Arash Mardani, is up now.
Australia’s Grech is 3-0 as a pro, and also has some experience on the professional grappling circuit. He’s making his ONE debut.
Iran’s Mardani is also making his ONE debut after competing in a range of combat sports disciplines around Thailand. He previously appeared on ONE Warrior Series, but lost by first round TKO to Danie van Heerden


Final MMA bout of the night up next

It’s Grech pushing the action to start round one. He clearly wants to close the distance and initiate grappling exchanges, but his hands are very low – he needs to be careful. After several tense minutes, the Australian eats a punch and hits the deck. He returns to his feet, but takes a Mardani leg kick and is dropped by a punch again. The round ends with an inadvertent eye poke from Grech, but Mardani recovers and it’s onto to round two.
Round two begins with another foul – this time a low blow from Grech. They resume, and Mardani lands a leg kick and sends Grech to the mat again. They return to the feet, and it happens again. This is turning into a bit of an embarrassing showing from Grech, who seems content to flop onto his back and beg his opponent to dive into guard. The crowd is booing. Grech hits flops to the ground again and again, and finally gets a yellow card – and the crowd loves that. The rounds ends with Grech attacking a heel hook but it’s no good.
Grech’s hands are at his hips to start the third, but thankfully for him, Mardani has taken his foot off the gas. Maybe he senses the decision is his regardless – but the ref doesn’t like it. He gives Grech his second yellow card, and Mardani his first.
After another stretch of inactivity, the referee gives Grech a red card – meaning Mardani wins by disqualification. Unbelievable. A disappointing end to a totally forgettable fight.

We’ve got a good one up next, as Thailand’s Pongsiri PK. Saenchai takes on Ferzan Cicek from Turkey at a 152-pound catchweight Muay Thai clash.
Pongsiri has fought many times in ONE, and will be looking to rebound from a knockout loss to recent title challenger Alaverdi Ramazanov. He’s a two-time Lumpinee champion – so this is his home turf.
Cicek is making his ONE debut.


Pongsiri heads to the ring

Cicek starts with a series of frenetic flurries, and within a minute, he seems to have Pongsiri rocked. But just when it looks like the Thai is in trouble, he sends his Turkish foe crashing to the mat. They continue to trade to close out the first round, and both men landed some huge shots. Cicek landed more, but Pongsiri is known for being a slow starter.
Pongsiri hits a sweep to start round two. He is being aggressive now, walking his Turkish foe into the ropes, landing crisp punching combos, round kicks, and elbows. This strategy is serving him well. He’s landing a lot, and cleanly. He is taunting Cicek as he walks him down, taking a page from Rodtang Jitmuangnon’s book. The Turkish fighter survives the round, but he took a beating.

Pongsiri gets back to his pressure to start the final round. He is charging across the ring at Cicek, uncorking wild punches and even flying elbows. Cicek has no room to breath, but manages to sweep Pongsiri – a small morale boost. Pongsiri’s onslaught resumes, and continues to the final bell.
We go to the scorecards, and it’s a unanimous decision for the local hero Pongsiri.


Pongsiri rallies after early scare

Up next is 139-pound catchweight Muay Thai showdown between Yodlekpet “The Destroyer” Or.Pitisak and Silviu “Hitman” Vitez.
Thailand’s Yodlekpet is making his ONE debut, but is both experienced and esteemed on the Muay Thai scene, with four world titles to his credit.
Romania’s Vitez is also new to ONE.


Yodlekpet and Vitez debut next

Yodlekpet and Vitez trade low kicks to start round one, but Yodlekpet is throwing and landing more of them. Vitez, who is quite a bit taller, is throwing combos, but the punches are not landing clean, and Yodlekpet is responding each time with more leg kicks, and punches of his own. Vitez switches stances, and the maneuver pays off. He punishes Yodlekpet with combos and a high kick off the angle-change, but the Thai surges back as the round ends.
Vitez’s legs are already purple to start round two, and Yodlekpet gets right back to chopping away at them with kicks. The Thai is definitely living up to his “Destroyer” monicker, at least as far as the Romanian’s legs are concerned. But Vitez is still in this, and surges back with some crackling boxing combos. Unfortunately, he suffers a bad cut in close – probably from an elbow – and the doctor pauses the action to inspect the wound. The commentators thing Vitez is fine to continue, but the doc disagrees, and waves it off.
Yodlekpet wins his ONE debut by second-round doctor stoppage. He will definitely be a fighter to watch in the promotion’s stacked bantamweight division.

Yodlekpet gets the first post-fight interview of the night, and as it turns out, the first bonus of the night.
“I’m so excited,” he says after commentator Mitch Chilson reveals his $US 10,000 bonus. “I want to say thanks to Chatri, thanks to the team and everybody.”

We’ve reached the second half of Friday’s card in Lumpinee, and the next fight will be an atomweight Muay Thai clash between Yoddoi Kaewsamrit and Songchainoi Kiatsongrit, both from Thailand.
Both fighters are making their ONE debuts.


Atomweight Muay Thai up next

As expected the two atomweights come out firing. Yoddoi hits a trip, and Songchainoi is the first fighter to hit the mat. They return to the feet. Songchainoi is cranking up the offence now, and is landing some beautiful punches. He dumps Yoddoi twice, and they trade heavy kicks to finish a riveting first round.
Songchainoi goes right to the high kick to round two, throwing it multiple times in succession. Yoddoi fires back with punches. The uppercut is working for him, but he stumbles to the mat. He returns to the feet, but Songchainoi pushes him back to the canvas. Yoddoi gets up and gets back to his boxing, again sneaking the uppercut up the middle, but Songchainoi is responding with combos and clinching when he needs to. With 30 seconds left, Songchainoi stings Yoddoi and the referee calls it the first official knockdown of the fight. That means it’s Songchainoi’s round.

Yoddoi, sensing he’s behind, comes out gun blazing in the final round, but Songchainoi isn’t backing down. They tie up, split, and trade, then rinse and repeat several times. With just over a minute left, Yoddoi lands a right hand – maybe the best punch of the fight so far – but Songchainoi survives and they tie up again. They break and Yoddoi sneaks in an uppercut. Yoddoi lands more, Songchainoi hits another dump, and the round ends.
After a fun nine minutes, Songchainoi wins a unanimous decision for a successful ONE debut.

Up next is a flyweight Muay Thai showdown pitting Thailand’s Nakrob Fairtex against Kyrgyzstan’s Sherzod Kabutov.
Nakrob, who trains at the star-studded Fairtex Training Centre in Pattaya, is making his ONE debut, but has fought on some big stages before, including K-1.
Kabutov, who trains alongside the likes of Sinsamut Klinmee and Alaverdi Ramazanov at Venum in Pattaya, made his ONE debut last year, defeating Denis Purić by decision. He was briefly slated to fight Panpayak Jitmuangnon last year, but the fight fell through.


Flyweights take to the ring

Nakrob lands a nice combo early in round one, but Kabutov responds with a kick and a right hand that seems to hurt the Thai. Nakrob plows in with a right and, and Kabutov tries to counter with a spinning elbow. The Kyrgyzstani fighter is very dynamic in there, not just with his offense, but his defence too. He’s drifting around the ring, just outside Nakrob’s range. They exchange, and they both land, but Kabutov lands better. The Kyrgyzstani contender closes the round with a stinging jab.
Round two starts with Nakrob closing the distance, and Kabutov firing back with straight punches. Nakrob lands a few low kicks – a good plan if he wants to slow Kabutov down – but the Kyrgyzstani fighter fires back with an overhand, and gets back to the jab. Kabutov hits a spinning back fist, then lands several jabs and a body attack. He’s using every weapon in the arsenal, but as the round nears its end, Nakrob begins to land. With seconds left, he hurts Kabutov badly with a straight punch. They could be even heading into the third.
Both men are throwing to start round three. Kabutov tries a spinning back fist, but it misses, and Nakrob punishes him with a punch. Then the Thai lands again, and knocks out his foe’s mouthpiece. There could be a momentum swing at hand. Kabutov tries another spin, but slips to the mat. With just over a minute left, Nakrob sends his foe crashing to the mat with a straight punch – the first knockdown of the fight. Kabutov is back up, but Nakrob is swarming him, and doesn’t relent until the round ends.
After three rounds, Nakrob wins a deserved unanimous-decision.


Nakrob posts come-from-behind win

We’re headed to the featherweight division next, as Thailand’s Avatar PK.Saenchai takes on Iran’s Mohammed Siasarani under Muay Thai rules.
Both men are making their debuts in ONE.


Featherweights on deck

The two featherweights spend the first minute or so attempting to measure distance and timing, peppering in a few low kick and punches each. After almost two minutes, they tie up, trade knees, break, and resume their measured striking exchanges at range. Avatar throws a few kicks, but Siasarani responds with some prodding jabs, and catches a kick to dump his foe to the mat. The first round ends, and it was a close one.
The pace quickens to start round two, as both men start trading kicks and punches. The crowd seems to be happy about this. The kicks continue to fly on both sides, and the punches follow. Avatar is leaning in and firing straights and overhands, while Siasarani is favouring tight combos in close. The Iranian catches a kick and dumps his opponent, then lands some punches, but Avatar fires back a big right hand to end the round.
Avatar engages with crowd to start round three. Siasarani fires off a combo that ends with an uppercut. Avatar fires back with punches and a kick that lands on his foe’s forearms. The strikes continue from the Thai. He is mixing his attacks up well now, and cutting off the ring. With a minute left, he traps his foe in the corner and lands another big right. He seems to be having a lot of fun there, while Siasarani looks like he’s stuck on rewind, moving backward until the fight ends.
We got to the judges, and Siasarani wins a unanimous decision. The fans in the building aren’t happy about this one – and those around the world will likely have something to say too.


Siasarani scores questionable UD

We’re down to the second last fight of the night: a strawweight Muay Thai clash between Chalamkhao PK.Saenchai and Pettong Kiatsongrit.
Both Thais are making their ONE debut, but will be looking to make a statement and assert themselves as future challengers for the strawweight belt, currently held by Italy’s Joseph Lasiri.


Two fights left...

Pettong gets things started with some kicks and punches, but Chalamkhao is unfazed, and fires back. Pettong is the aggressor in this one so far, but Chalamkhao is landing the better strikes off the back foot. The push kick continues to be a good weapon for him. He fires two straight right hands down the middle and both land. Pettong lands to the body, but he eats an elbow in return, and the round ends.
Chalamkhao starts round two with a pair of high kicks, a sizzling punching combo and an elbow. This guy is a lot of fun to watch. Pettong ties up, sneaks in a knee, and they break. Chalamkhao lands another right hand. He is impeccably accurate with his strikes. He seems to sting Pettong with a punch, then pushes him to the ground. When they return to the feet, Chalamkhao sneaks in more punches, and worse, some brutal elbows. Pettong is in big trouble, but he lands a sweep near the end of the round – a nice morale boost if nothing else.

Pettong is seemingly way behind heading into round three. he looks to close the gap with a three-punch combo, but takes a kick in return. He continues to walk forward – which could look good to the judges – but is eating nasty counters of all kinds from Chalamkhao. Suddenly Pettong shows signs of life. He lands a flurry of punches and Chalamkhao falls to the mat, but it’s not a knockdown. They get back to striking, then Chalamkhao wobbles Pettong with a huge right hand, then another. Talk about ending the fight on a high note.
We go to the judges, and as expected, Chalamkhao get the unanimous decision.


Chalamkhao announces himself with impressive decision win

We’ve reached the final fight of the night, and it’s a good one.
In one corner, we’ll have Thailand’s Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai. In the other, his countryman Sangmanee PK.Saenchai, considered one of the sport’s top prospects.
It will be the second time the two bantamweights have met under the ONE banner. Kulabdam won their first fight, part of the promotion’s 2020 bantamweight Grand Prix, with a shocking first-round KO.
He has since lost back-to-back fights to Rodlek PK.Saenchai and Saemapetch Fairtex. Sangmanee lost his next fight, outside the ONE Circle, but has since rebounded with a decision win over Zhang Chenglong.


The main event of the evening!

Sangmanee gets his fingernails trimmed outside the ring – safety first – and then steps onto the canvas for round one.
They trade low kicks to start, and mix in a few punches, but none land clean until Sangmanee fires a straight down the middle. Kulabdam fires back with a punch. Sangmanee lands a stiff left hand that gets a smile from his foe, then a low kick. Kulabdam responds with a leg kick, then catches one of his foe’s, and charges forward with punches. He closes the round with a few low kicks and a stinging shot with the left hand.
Sangmanee fires off a left hand to start round two, but Kulabdam answers with several of his own. Then Kulabdam lands a leg kick, and eats one in return. They are going tit-for-tat to start this round. Sangmanee attacks the body, then the head, but Kulabdam eats it all and taunts his foe. They trade punches in the centre, and Sangmanee lands a good left hand in the fracas. He follows with a step-in elbow, but Kulabdam fires back with punches and elbows – all potential fight-enders. Sangmanee fires off some kicks to the body that land clean. They clinch, and the round ends with a break.

The final round starts with kicks from both men, including several more thudding impacts to Sangmanee’s leg. They clinch and break, clinch and break, then Kulabdam unleashes a flurry in the centre. Sangmanee lands a cracking left hand, and they trade in close. The crowd is definitely loving this main event. Sangmanee lands a punch, then Kulabdam lands the biggest one of the fight so far – his patented left hand. Sangmanee bounces off the ropes to keep his footing, and the round ends before Kulabdam can follow up.
This was a close one, but all three judges score it for Kulabdam.
