ONE Championship: Ok Rae-yoon to fight Lowen Tynanes at US debut in Colorado

  • Former champion Ok will look to rebound from title loss to Christian Lee against long-time contender Tynanes on May 5
  • ONE’s first event on US soil features three title fights and appearances from some of the promotion’s biggest names

Ok Rae-yoon will begin his climb back to title contention at ONE Championship Fight Night 10.

The South Korean, who held the promotion’s lightweight MMA title until last August, will take on American Lowen Tynanes at the May 5 event in Denver, Colorado, a source told the Post.

The event will be ONE’s first on US soil.

Ok Rae-yoon lands a punch on Christian Lee.

Ok (16-4) lost his title to Christian Lee in the main event of ONE 160, suffering a second-round TKO loss. It was the pair’s second meeting, after Ok took a contentious unanimous decision – and the lightweight belt – from Lee in September of 2021.

Despite his loss to Lee, Ok remains ONE’s No 1-ranked lightweight contender. The 31-year-old earned his position with victories over former ONE featherweight champion Marat Gafurov and former UFC and Bellator lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez in his first two fights with the promotion.

Hawaii’s Tynanes (11-1) has long been considered one of ONE’s most promising lightweights, but had his momentum slowed by a split-decision loss to Gafurov in 2020. He has also been hindered by long stretches of inactivity – due primarily to back problems – having fought just three times since 2016.

Lowen Tynanes raises his hand after a bloody fight with Dae Sung-park.

However, the 32 finally seems to be picking up speed. His last fight, a bloody split-decision win over South Korea’s Dae Sung-park in Manila, Philippines, was just three months ago.

ONE Fight Night 10 will be topped by a championship trilogy fight, as flyweight MMA champion Demetrious Johnson looks to settle a 1-1 rivalry with former champ Adriano Moraes. Johnson is widely considered the greatest fighter of all time, while Moraes is among ONE’s most accomplished champions.

Flyweight Muay Thai champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon will also defend his belt at the event, taking on debuting Mexican challenger Edgar Tabares, while flyweight submission grappling champ Mikey Musumeci will look to defend his title against Yemen’s Osamah Almarwai, also debuting.

The card will also feature a middleweight MMA clash between Aung La N Sang and Fan Rong, a strawweight MMA bout pitting Stamp Fairtex against Alyse Anderson, and the return of Sage Northcutt, who will take on Ahmed Mujtaba at lightweight.

In addition, former two-division KSW champion Roberto Soldic will take on former ONE champ Zebaztian Kadestam in a welterweight MMA bout, while ONE middleweight MMA king Reinier de Ridder is set for a submission grappling bout with BJJ star Tye Ruotolo.
