ONE Championship Fight Night 9 line-up revealed with returns of Meng Bo, Halil Amir

  • April 22 event in Bangkok will be headlined by a bantamweight Muay Thai title fight, as champion Nong-O defends against Jonathan Haggerty
  • Meng Bo will take on Dayane Cardoso in strawweight MMA bout, with Amir up against newcomer Maurice Abevi in lightweight co-main event

ONE Championship has revealed the complete line-up for ONE Fight Night 9, slated for April 22 at Bangkok’s famed Lumpinee Stadium.

It was announced several weeks ago the card will be topped by a bantamweight Muay Thai title fight, between champion Nong-O Hama and English challenger Jonathan Haggerty.

However there were only a few other fights confirmed for the card until this week, when the promotion unveiled the complete bill.

The most notable new addition is a lightweight MMA clash between Turkey’s Halil Amir, and Maurice Abevi of Switzerland, which will serve as the card’s co-main event.

The 28-year-old Amir (8-0) will be looking to build on the momentum of a shocking second-round knockout win over Timofey Nastyukhin on his promotional debut last September, which earned him the No 4 spot in the lightweight MMA rankings.

Abevi, 23, will be making his ONE debut with a 6-0 pro record, comprising three wins by submission and three by knockout or TKO. He trains out of Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand.

It was also revealed that China’s Meng Bo (20-6) – one of ONE’s top female mixed martial artists – will meet Brazil’s Dayane Cardoso (9-1-1) in a strawweight clash. The two women, both 26, are both riding stoppage wins.

Meng Bo celebrates her win over Jenelyn Olsim in the Philippines.

Meng knocked out Jenelyn Olsim in just 24 seconds last December, while “Monster” Cardoso posted a second-round stoppage of Ayaka Miura last April.

The winner of their fight could potentially earn the opportunity to fight long-reigning strawweight MMA champion Xiong Jingnan, from China.

ONE Fight Night 9 will also see South Africa’s Bokang Masunyane (8-1) and Japan’s Hiroba Minowa (13-3) meet in a high stakes strawweight MMA clash, and Filipino atomweight MMA contender Denice Zamboanga (9-2) take on Brazil’s Julie Mezabarba (9-4-1) – though both matchups were announced some time ago.
