ONE Championship returning to Singapore on September 30 with ‘absolute fire’ card

  • CEO Chatri Sityodtong confirms martial arts promotion will be back in its home city for first time since March
  • Event moved back four weeks from September 2, and will be broadcast on Amazon Prime Video in US prime time

ONE Championship will return to Singapore on September 30, in what will be its first event outside Bangkok since May.

The promotion’s CEO and chairman Chatri Sityodtong confirmed the date to the Post on Sunday, and said September 2’s ONE Fight Night 14 card had been moved back by four weeks.

Before the date change, the September 2 card was slated to be headlined by an interim atomweight MMA title fight between Stamp Fairtex and Ham Seo-hee.

October 7’s ONE Fight Night 15 card will also remain in the same slot, meaning that there will be Prime Video events in back-to-back weeks. A location has not yet been announced for that event.

Chatri had initially appeared to break the news in a Facebook post on Saturday night, that read simply: “Singapore 9/30!”

He also said September’s Singapore event would not mark the return of “numbered events”, and that it will take place in the morning in Asia, and be geared towards American prime time.

“I love throwing events in Singapore because the crowd is always so full of energy. This upcoming card is also absolute fire,” Chatri told the Post via text message on Sunday.

The martial arts promotion has not held an event in its home city since March, when Superlek defended his flyweight kickboxing title in the main event with a TKO of Danial Williams.

Other than its on-ground US debut in Colorado, ONE has been exclusively based out of Lumpinee Stadium in the Thai capital since then, with weekly Friday Fights cards held at the famed arena.

ONE has not held a main roster numbered event, or Asian prime time show, since ONE 164 in Manila, the Philippines, last December.

Chatri told the Post in June that numbered events would return later in 2023, with the company believed to be targeting its first show in Doha for November after signing an MOU with Qatar to continue its expansion into the Middle East.

ONE was exclusively based out of Singapore Indoor Stadium for the first nine months of 2022, with events often held behind closed doors amid pandemic restrictions in the city state.
