ONE Championship: Chatri keen on ‘super fun fight’ between Garry Tonon and Martin Nguyen
- ONE CEO hints match-up could determine next featherweight MMA title contender as fighters call their shots on social media
- ‘It must happen. Let’s start the year with a bang,’ says former champion Nguyen, who suggests fight could take place in Tokyo

Former champion Martin Nguyen and former title challenger Garry Tonon have both called for it, and now it seems ONE Championship is on board with them fighting it out in the Circle.
The featherweight MMA division is hotting up, with Thanh Le beating Ilya Freymanov in 62 seconds via heel hook at ONE Fight Night 15 in Bangkok this month.
That set up a customary stare down in the Lumpinee Stadium ring – and a future title unification bout – with divisional champion Tang Kai.
The winner of that clash may also have their next contender lined up too, with ONE’s chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong expressing interest in seeing No 1-ranked Tonon face No 3 Ngyuen.
“Yes, I like that fight a lot – a super fun fight for the fans and one that could lead to a title shot,” Chatri told the Post via text message this week.
