ONE Championship moves Qatar debut, confirms Japan return for early 2024
- CEO Chatri Sityodtong announces three big events, with Singapore return also set for February 2024
- Asia-based martial arts promotion set for ‘biggest year in history’ with US venues and dates set to be revealed
ONE Championship has moved its debut event in Qatar to March, and will also return to Japan in early 2024.
The Asia-based martial arts promotion’s CEO, Chatri Sityodtong, confirmed the news in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Chatri also announced a return to Singapore – ONE Fight Night 19 – which is listed as taking place on February 17 on the organisation’s official website.
“Get ready for ONE 166 in Qatar on March 1, 2024!” Chatri wrote. “Stay tuned also for some huge fight news imminently for ONE 165 in Japan and ONE Fight Night 19 in Singapore.
“I will also be sharing some exciting news in two weeks about ONE and Europe. Lastly, I will announce the first dates and venues shortly for our US events next year.”
Chatri also said ONE is set for its “biggest year in history” with US venues and dates to be announced, and hinted at a European debut.
The Qatar and Japan shows mark the return of numbered events to ONE’s calendar. The most recent – ONE 164 – was held in Manila in December 2022.
ONE was originally set to debut in Qatar on December 1, with “five title fights” planned according to Chatri. No reason for the change in date was given.
The promotion has not been to Japan since two blockbuster events at Tokyo’s famed Ryogoku Sumo Hall in 2019.
It has mostly operated out of Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok in 2023.
