ONE Championship Friday Fights 6: Ilias Ennahachi wins bantamweight debut, 16-year-old ‘Jojo’ Ghazali scores quick KO
- Ennahachi defeated Aliasghar Ghodratisaraskan by second-round knockout in his first fight since he relinquished ONE’s flyweight kickboxing belt
- Later on the card in Bangkok, Malaysian teenager Ghazali won a 350,000 baht bonus with a 16-second knockout of Padetsuk Fairtex
ONE Championship had another action-packed night in Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, highlighted by an epic comeback, a redemptive win from a former champion, and a lightning quick knockout from a 16-year-old prospect.
The event, ONE’s sixth in the world famous Muay Thai arena, was topped by a flyweight Muay Thai clash between Gingsanglek Tor Laksong and Kongthoranee Sor Sommai, both of whom were making their promotional debuts.
Kongthoranee won the fight by second-round knockout, rebounding from an early knockdown in dramatic fashion. The win earned him a 350,000 baht ($US 10,000) from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong, and pushed him to 2-1 in a three-fight rivalry with his fellow Thai in the process.
It was a fitting end to a night that was full of memorable moments.
Chief among those moments was a crucial victory from former flyweight kickboxing champion Ilias Ennahachi, who posted a second-round knockout against Iran’s Aliasghar Ghodratisaraskan. It was the Moroccan-Dutch kickboxer’s first fight as a bantamweight, and more importantly, his first win since he relinquished the flyweight title earlier this year.
He gave up the belt in the lead-up to a planned title defence opposite Thailand’s Superlek Kiatmoo9 due to his inability to make weight, and received harsh criticism from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong – which some will speculate is the reason he did not receive a bonus for his Friday knockout.
Several fights later, 16-year-old Malaysian prospect Johan ‘Jojo’ Ghazali made his case for a bonus undeniable with a 16-second knockout of Padetsuk Fairtex in a flyweight Muay Thai clash – his ONE debut.
Two other fighters also received bonuses at the event in Lumpinee: Australia’s Celeste Hansen, who scored a late stoppage against Thailand’s Kalaked Por Muangpetch in a catchweight Muay Thai fight, and Bulgarian kickboxer Bogdan Shumarov, who posted a sizzling one-punch knockout of Marwen Houli at lightweight.
