Nico Carrillo knocked out Nong-O Gaiyanghadao in such an emphatic manner at ONE Friday Fights 46, it thrust the Scottish bantamweight straight into title contention.

And less than nine months into his time with the ONE Championship, Carrillo could already be set to challenge bantamweight champion Jonathan Haggerty.

The 25-year-old’s first fight for the promotion was in April, and his stunning dismissal of former champion Nong-O was his third in a row at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

After the fight, Carrillo said there was no one left he needed to test himself against and ONE should “just give me the title shot now”.

The fight finished exactly the way Carrillo envisioned it, with a left elbow leaving Nong-O collapsed on the canvas with no chance of the Thai veteran beating the count.

“It’s all I’ve seen for the last eight weeks, especially this week,” Carrillo said. “Every time I put my head on the pillow to go to sleep, my mind would just start racing and I would just think of Nong-O lying on the canvas.
