UFC legend Vitor Belfort has become the latest mixed martial arts star to make the jump to One Championship.
The former UFC light-heavyweight champion (MMA record 26-14-1) was ringside for One’s show in Singapore last Friday, with reports emerging this week he was in negotiations with the Asia-based organisation.
“I have been in this sport since I was 19 years old, and have been fortunate enough to witness its growth and evolution first hand,” Belfort, 41, said. “I am grateful to so many for this incredible opportunity.”
The Brazilian said it will be a “great honour” to fight in front of Asian audiences. “I plan to become a One world champion in front of some of the best martial arts fans in the world,” he added.
Belfort is expected to be officially introduced at a One media day in Las Vegas on Friday. He is the latest big-name free agent to sign for One following deals for former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and young prospect Sage Northcutt.
