Bruce Lee’s legacy has loomed large over the hype that has led us towards Tuesday’s world premiere of Oscar-winning American director Quentin Tarantino’s latest offering, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, at the famed Cannes Film Festival.

To coincide with this highly anticipated release, this week the South China Morning Post will tap into the legacy, and the influence Lee still has across cinema and the modern world of martial arts, almost 46 years on from his death.

Through a series of articles and multimedia presentations, mixing infographics, video and images, we relive the life and times of the man himself, and tell the fascinating stories of a selection of Hong Kong’s forgotten fighting heroes.

We also take a close look at the unique fight club they helped to burn brightly but briefly in Hong Kong back in the 1980s, long predating the likes of Ultimate Fighting Championship and Asia’s own One Championship.

The first trailer for Once Upon A Time in Hollywood was released in March and it features A-listers such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. It also involves a plotline that taps into a continued global fascination with the gruesome Tate-LaBianca murders of 1969.
