Chinese MMA fighter Xu Xiaodong breaks balding wing chun master’s nose in brutal beat down

Outspoken Chinese MMA fighter Xu Xiaodong was back in action at the weekend, taking on a wing chun “master” – and the fight went pretty much how you would expect.
The bout took place in Karamay, China on Saturday, with Xu weighing around 100kgs compared to the 50kg Lu – who turned up wearing a fedora to cover his bald spot. Lu didn’t even wear gloves or wraps on his fists, because he said they prevent him from properly using his wing chun.
That didn’t help him out too much – the 40-year-old Xu, wearing clown face paint, went straight after Lu from the bell, peppering his face with strikes and knocking him down in six seconds.
The referee stepped in to separate the two men, allowing Lu to stand back up. But none of his pressure point techniques worked as Xu quickly knocked him down again.
Xu put him on the floor a third time, this time through the ropes. Lu’s next tactic was simply to turn his back and start running away, and that was when the referee waved it off.
According to YouTube channel Fight Commentary Breakdowns, which posted the video of the fight, Lu had his nose broken and had to go to hospital.
After the fight, an angry Xu reportedly said Chinese martial arts authorities made him don the clown make up and use a fake name – otherwise the fight could not have been live-streamed.
He had to go by the name “Xu Dong Gua” – which translates as Xu Winter Melon – and he wasn’t happy about that, and he certainly looked like he was taking his anger out on Lu.
“Crazy that these fights still happen. Other styles still haven’t got the message,” was one viewer’s assessment in the video comments section.
“Imagine getting rushed with punches by a giant panda with a clown mask,” another wrote.
“Xu should have stood there for a minute to let him try all the pressure point techniques on him,” wrote another. “Now the traditional martial arts guy is gonna say, ‘If we had the chance to use pressure points, Xu would’ve been dead’.”
Xu has riled up China’s traditional martial arts community over the past two years, after a video of him knocking out tai chi master Wei Lei in 10 seconds went viral.
Mad Dog, who runs an MMA gym in Beijing, said he had to go into hiding to protect his family after being physically confronted by groups in the streets looking to defend the honour of traditional martial arts.
