Demetrious Johnson’s ‘Street Fighter Challenge’ doesn’t end well for his One Championship foes

Not content with being the “GOAT” fighting inside the cage, it turns out Demetrious Johnson is pretty handy fighting in the virtual world too.

The mixed martial arts legend recently sat down for his “Street Fighter Challenge” during a One Championship athletes’ retreat at The Marriott Hotel in Phuket, Thailand.

“Mighty Mouse” took on a string of his fellow One athletes at Street Fighter V, the latest instalment of the famed fighting video game – and cruised to a 5-0 clean sweep.

“The One athletes came to my domain,” Johnson said.

Johnson, a former UFC flyweight champion who holds the record for consecutive UFC title defences, signed with One Championship last October.

He lived up to expectations on his debut with an impressive second-round submission of Japan’s Yuya Wakamatsu in Tokyo in March – but the 32-year-old is also being promoted as the face of the Asian MMA outfit’s new One Esports venture.

Demetrious Johnson puts on a ground game masterclass in the second round against Yuya Wakamatsu.

“The biggest challenge and the biggest learning curve was Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera,” said Johnson, who regularly streams on his Twitch channel.

“We played twice – the first game he didn’t do so well, the second game he actually did a lot better, I think he got one round on me.

“But he has the true potential, I could take him as a Padawan and teach him, and he can become his own Jedi.”
