One Championship: Cosmo Alexandre ‘sad’ he splintered Sage Northcutt’s cheek into 30 pieces
- Former UFC star ‘getting better’ but still in Singapore hospital
- Brazilian veteran Alexandre ‘hated’ to hear Northcutt needed nine-hour operation
Cosmo Alexandre knew he had hurt Sage Northcutt with the vicious overhand right that knocked him out cold in 29 seconds. He just didn’t know how much.
“When the fight was over and he got back up his face was already swollen, and that’s something unusual,” Alexandre, 37, told MMA Fighting. “I had a feeling that it wasn’t 100 per cent.
“I left the ring and went backstage to see the doctor, he was in a different room, but I decided not to get in there because there was too many people out there. When they brought a stretcher, I knew something serious had happened.”
Northcutt posted a picture of himself the next day on Instagram from a Singapore hospital in front of two X-rays of his skull. He revealed he had undergone an “intense” nine-hour operation on nine facial fractures – certainly not the way he would have envisaged his One Championship debut going.
“The next day I heard that he had a long surgery. I hate that, man,” Alexandre said. “I’m doing my job there, to go in there and win.
