One Championship: Joe Rogan says Sage Northcutt and Cosmo Alexandre a ‘terrible match-up’
- But UFC commentator thinks more people will pay attention to One after brutal knockouts of Northcutt and Eddie Alvarez
- ‘It shows One has world class talent there … it’s a great thing for them’
Joe Rogan has weighed in on Sage Northcutt’s 29-second knockout by Cosmo Alexandre, a controversial match-up that has split debate among MMA fans. And the UFC commentator can see both sides of the argument.
Former UFC star Northcutt had to undergo an “intense” nine-hour surgery to repair eight facial fractures after his One Championship debut in Singapore against the Brazilian kick-boxing veteran went spectacularly wrong.
“It’s a terrible match-up,” Rogan said on his podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience. “I don’t know why they agreed to let him fight that guy [Alexandre], because of the kick-boxing and standup.
“Sage is good, he’s very good. These kind of losses are terrible for his future. They’re mismanagement losses in my opinion. I think Sage is, what, 22? [He’s 23] Look at that punch that lands, that is ferocious. Full blast shot. You can’t get hit cleaner than that.”
Rogan’s guest on the podcast, former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub, was also scathing in his assessment.
