One Championship: Cosmo Alexandre wants Vitor Belfort next after knocking out Sage Northcutt

Fresh off knocking Sage Northcutt out cold in 29 seconds, Cosmo Alexandre wants another big scalp of a former UFC star in Vitor Belfort.

The veteran Brazilian kick-boxer welcomed Northcutt to One Championship with a brutal overhand right in Singapore.

The victory at “One: Enter the Dragon” proved that, even at 37, Alexandre is one of the best strikers in the Asian MMA organisation, and it surely put him in the mix for a welterweight title shot.

“I’m not interested in the belt right now,” Alexandre told Tom Taylor of BJPenn.com, however. “Right now I want the big fights. I would love to welcome Vitor Belfort in his One Championship debut also. I have three more fights in my contract and I want big fights, big challenges.”

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Belfort signed with One in February but is yet to have been given an opponent.

He would face a stern test in compatriot Alexandre, a seven-time kick-boxing world champion with 69 wins from 88 fights, who has a burgeoning MMA record of 8-1 – six wins by knockout.

“I already have seven world titles, I already fought all the big names in Muay Thai and kick-boxing,” he added. “So for now, I just want the big names, and to make big money.

“I can fight mixed martial arts, Muay Thai or kick-boxing. I can do it all, and I bring everything I have in the ring or cage. I am just waiting for the call.”

Northcutt could certainly attest to the Brazilian’s punching power – he needed a nine-hour operation for eight facial fractures.

“I was ready for a war,” Alexandre told BJPenn.com. “I trained so hard for this fight.

“But we never know what can happen. As athletes, we train for every situation. I caught him with a good, clean punch and that was it.

“I thought he would try to stand for a few seconds and then try to take me down, but he had no time to do this. The fight was so short, he couldn’t get going.”
