Many fans wondered how long it would take Angela Lee to step back into the One Championship cage – but the atomweight champion has made it a quick turnaround, and will take on Michelle Nicolini in Kuala Lumpur on July 12.

After her gruelling defeat by strawweight champion Xiong Jingnan in Tokyo on March 31, there was speculation “Unstoppable” could take some time out to fully recover from a back injury before rematching her Chinese foe.

Singapore’s Lee instead will take on the Brazilian grappling star Nicolini at “One: Masters of Destiny”.

The card at the Axiata Arena will be headlined by a rematch between Giorgio Petrosyan and Petchmorakot Petchyindee. The Italian’s loss in their One featherweight kick-boxing world grand prix quarter-final in Singapore last month was overturned to a no-contest because of apparent rules infractions by the Thai.

One CEO and founder Chatri Sityodtong had suggested that a rematch between Lee and “The Panda” is still on the cards, though it would be for Lee’s atomweight title.

However, the 22-year-old Lee is fighting Nicolini at strawweight, and doubts remain whether she will compete at atomweight again, having last fought in the division over a year ago.
