UFC 238: Henry Cejudo becomes two-weight champion; Valentina Shevchenko scores devastating victory with showreel knockout

  • Cejudo becomes only the UFC’s fourth two-weight champion
  • Eye is knocked unconscious after incredible Shevchenko head kick

Henry Cejudo added the bantamweight strap to his flyweight title with a virtuoso TKO victory over Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 on Saturday night in Chicago.

Cejudo improved his record to 15-2 after overcoming a tricky first round which Moraes dominated.

Cejudo switched his tactics after the opener and dominated from then on.

An exhausted Moraes was rescued by the referee as Cejudo hammered in massive shots with the Brazilian on the mat as round three drew to a close.

The 2008 Olympic gold medallist became the fourth simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history with the win and immediately shifted his focus to his next target.

“I want to start making heavyweight money,” said Cejudo. “I’m going to give you guys that list now because I’m a prize fighter: Dominick Cruz, Cody Garbrandt, Uriah Faber. At 145 pounds, I would eventually like to go up and solidify another weight class as champion too.”

The co-main event was competitive for the opening round before Valentina Shevchenko landed a savage head kick on Jessica Eye to retain her flyweight title with a ruthless knockout in the second round

Eye, the division’s number one contender, was supine for almost five minutes after the kick and eventually rose to her feet seemingly stunned that the contest had been ended so quickly.

Shevchenko confirmed her dominance in the emerging 125 pound weight division, and said after the fight she was ready to take on all-comers.

Kyrgistani Shevchenko improved her record to 17-3 in defending her title.

Shevchenko opened the fight with a series of body kicks that landed. It was likely that fact that led Eye to lower her hands before the champion switched it up and planted a shuddering kick on Eye’s temple.

Shevchenko was dominant from the off and almost ended matters in the first round when she had Eye on her back, but the Ohio-native scrambled to her feet to make the second round.
