The rain has been the big talking point for this year’s Hong Kong E-Prix. But Formula E chairman Alejandro Agag thinks similar conditions would be perfect when the electric racing series makes its triumphant return to London next season.

“That track is going to be amazing,” Agag told the South China Morning Post. “Imagine if it rains, you will have wet track outside and dry track inside. That will be unique in the world of racing.”

Formula E lost its previous London race at Battersea Park two years ago, as residents were not happy with cars zooming around their family park. However, fans have been yearning for a London return.

The next London E-Prix – a season-finale double header on July 25 and 26 – will wind along the Royal Victoria Docks after starting inside the ExCeL London, a large convention centre that will serve as the largest indoor space in Formula E history.

“It’s going to be very cool,” Agag said. “I think the London race is a main highlight of our calendar. We wanted to be back in London – we need to be in all the key cities in the world. We’re in New York, We’re in Hong Kong, we’re in Paris, but we needed London on that list and now we finally made it. It’s a big moment for Formula E.”

The 44-year-old Spaniard went on to say that the UK, with its rich racing history, is a “key” market for his organisation.
