Shehzad ton powers Pakistan to easy victory

The 22-year-old from Lahore hit 10 boundaries and five sixes in his first T20 international century

Opener Ahmed Shehzad smashed an unbeaten 111 off 62 balls as Pakistan thrashed Bangladesh by 50 runs in Dhaka yesterday to stay on course for the semi-finals of the World Twenty20.

The 22-year-old from Lahore hit 10 boundaries and five sixes in his first T20 international century to lift Pakistan to a commanding 190-5 after they elected to bat.

Bangladesh managed only 140-7 in reply to suffer their third successive defeat in group two of the Super 10.

With both Bangladesh and Australia out of the race, the winner of tomorrow's last league match between Pakistan and the West Indies will join India in the semi-finals from the group.

Sri Lanka meet New Zealand in their last group one match today and the winners will join South Africa in the last four.

"This was a great effort from the boys," said Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez. "Everyone knew how important this game was. It was a special knock from Shehzad.

"He showed today that he has all the shots in the book. We now confidently look forward to playing the West Indies."
