Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka-long takes title at Malaysia Masters

Hong Kong Open champion lives up to top-seed billing as South Korea’s Lee Hyun-il is forced to retire at 1-1 and trailing in the third set

Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka-long kicked off 2017 in perfect fashion with victory in the Malaysia Masters on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, who became the first man from the city to win the Hong Kong Open last November, beat Lee Hyun-il in the final in Sarawak after the South Korean retired injured with the score at 1-1.

Ng was top seed for the US$120,000 Grand Prix Gold badminton event, with China’s big names giving it a miss.

Women’s doubles team Poon Lok-yan and Tse Ying-suet also reached the final of their event, but were beaten 21-17, 21-9 by Indonesian top seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai.
