Hong Kong snooker star Marco Fu Ka-chun continued his fine form this season as he reached the semis of the World Grand Prix in Preston.

He beat Mark King 4-2 in the quarters and will face Ryan Day for a place in the final against Barry Hawkins.

World No.8 Fu was in terrific form at the turn of the year, winning the Scottish Open in December and reaching the semis of two of the game’s most prestigious events, the UK Championship and the Masters.

He hit a bit of a blip with early exits in China Open qualifying and German Masters, but was in total control against King, racing to a 3-0 lead with breaks of 102, 98 and 72. And though King clawed his way back, Fu eventually won the sixth frame after a 20-minute-long safety battle with the Englishman needing snookers.

Fu’s ball control was all the more remarkable as he had split the tip of his cue, he revealed in an innuendo-laced tweet.

Day, considered one of the best players not to have won a ranking title, beat defending champion Shaun Murphy in his quarter-final.
