I’m waiting on Jose Mourinho’s call for Manchester United move, jokes Usain Bolt

Jamaican sprint legend is calling it a day after the world championships in London, but the lifelong United fan is still keen to fulfil another dream

Usain Bolt may be hanging up the athletics spikes for good after the upcoming world championships in London, but he might have a new career path lined up already.

The eight-time Olympic champion sprinter is an avid Manchester United fan and has joked that manager Jose Mourinho is keeping him sweating on a dream move to Old Trafford.

“Everyone knows I’m always talking about [playing] football, I’m waiting on a call from Mourinho,” Bolt said at a promotional event with sponsors Puma in London.

“I think he’s waiting until the last day [of the transfer window].”

The 30-year-old Jamaican has suggested in the past that United should take him on trial, and with a move for Inter Milan winger Ivan Persic seemingly stalling, Mourinho could maybe use Bolt’s rapid pace on the wings.

The world championships get underway at the Olympic Stadium on Friday, with Bolt defending his 100 metres title and also running the 4x100m relay.

He has 11 world golds to his name and is the world record holder in the 100m and 200m.
