Asian Games: Silver and two bronze for Hong Kong rowers; Leung wins first cycling medal
Chiu Hin-chun finishes second in men’s lightweight sculls with Lee Ka-man taking third in the women’s equivalent
Hong Kong’s Chiu Hin-chun gave Hong Kong their fourth silver medal of the Asian Games when he finished an impressive second to South Korea’s Park Hyun-su in the men’s lightweight singles sculls at the JSC Lake in Palembang on Friday.
Lee Ka-man also finished on the podium in the women’s lightweight sculls, winning a bronze. She finished behind China’s Pan Dandan and Nazanin Malaei, of Iran.
And the Hong Kong men’s eight finished third in their lightweight division, behind Indonesia and Uzbekistan, justifying coach Chris Perry’s decision for four of their team to take it easy in Thursday’s quadruples.
In the women’s individual time trial, 21-year-old Leung Wing-yee finished third, 2:25.05 behind the winner from South Korea, Na Ahreyum, who timed 31:57.10 over the 20 kilometres. Japan’s Eri Yonamine was second only 0.16 of a second behind.
Chan clocked seven minutes, 14.16 seconds to easily beat India’s Dushyant (7:18.76) into third with Park finishing the 1,000 metre course in 7:12.86.
Chan’s was Hong Kong’s fourth silver medal of the Games after swimming (women’s 4x100m medley relay), fencing (Nicholas Choi in men’s foil) and wushu (Juanita Mok in Taijiquan and Taijijian all round).
As of Friday morning, Hong Kong had one gold medal through Jacqueline Siu Wing-ying in equestrianism’s dressage individual competition.
Hong Kong’s record medal haul is 42 at the 2014 Asian Games.
In fencing, China defeat Hong Kong 45-34 in the women’s team epee semi-final, which means a bronze for Hong Kong.
