Super Bowl’s best-ever Audi ad – the amazing stunt scene that was cut from ‘Release the Hounds’ because of Kenny G
- Hong Kong-raised actor Gil Darnell says stuntman Aaron Vexler flew over the car, grabbed the door handle and slipped inside within a few seconds

Super Bowl Sunday means commercial night, when the major brand names use the occasion to debut their ads for the whole world to see.
Among the annual favourites is that of German carmaker Audi and they did not disappoint with an ad for an electric car, in which the main character was a cashew nut.
Audi’s Super Bowl culture started in 2011 with the most famous of their spots, “Release the Hounds”, starring Hong Kong-raised Gil Darnell who played the James Bond-esque escapee from a posh prison.
While the Bryan Buckley-directed ad won Best Super Bowl Commercial for 2011, Darnell revealed to the South China Morning Post that the best scene involving a spectacular stunt by Aaron Vexler was cut to accommodate ... wait for it ... the music of Kenny G.

Darnell said the original script called for his escapee character to fly into the Audi from over the roof while his fellow inmate, played by Steve Gevedon, opts for a Mercedes.
