The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday praised the efforts of Beijing 2022 organisers, saying next year’s Olympics will enhance China’s reputation as a world-class tourism destination for winter sports.
Christophe Dubi, the IOC’s Olympic Games executive director, said the organising committee of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing submitted a “thorough report” of its activities and preparations at an IOC Executive Board meeting on Wednesday.
“The one thing that I’m certain about is that in terms of presenting Beijing and China as a winter sport destination, we are very well under way,” Dubi told the Post at an IOC virtual press conference.
“I must say some of the imagery we got out of alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, across all sports including speed skating, they have really state-of-the-art venues and what is very comforting is that these venues will be used after the Games.”
Beijing 2022 is part of the Chinese government’s 10-year Winter Sports Development Plan from 2016 to 2025, aimed at increasing the population’s love for snow and ice sports.
