Tokyo Paralympics: Philippines team down to four after another positive Covid-19 case
- Jeanette Aceveda was due to make her long-awaited bow at the Paralympics

The Filipino team is now down to just four athletes after Aceveda was forced to withdraw. Her and her coach Bernard Buen also were moved to a quarantine facility outside the Athletes’ Village, in accordance with rules set out in the Paralympics “playbook”.
The 50-year-old Aceveda was said to be greatly disappointed by the news given she had finally qualified to compete at the Paralympics in Tokyo after 24 years competing for the Philippines national team.
“Although she would not be able to fulfil her dream to compete in the Paralympics and represent the Philippines, Jeanette still hopes there will be more chances for her to make this come true in the future,” said Philippine Paralympic Committee president Michael Barredo in a statement on Sunday.
Last week, weightlifter Achelle Guion was also forced to withdraw from competition after providing a positive test result.
