A year before the start of the Hangzhou Asian Games and broadcaster i-Cable has secured exclusive broadcast rights to the event in Hong Kong.

The 19th edition of the Games will take place from September 23 to October 8 2023, and it will be the seventh time the television company has broadcast the multi-sport event since the 1998 Games in Bangkok.

In addition to live broadcast, i-Cable said it was committed to providing its local audience with “extensive” online and offline coverage and interactive experiences via multichannel marketing.

There had been fears of a repeat of the Jakarta Games four years ago, where an asking price of US$6 million from the Indonesian organising committee saw many local broadcasters shy away from the event.

Three weeks before the start of that competition, i-Cable announced it had secured the rights. And while no figures were ever revealed, it was believed the final cost was around one tenth of the original asking price.
