Hong Kong chosen ahead of Singapore to host fencing World Cup, set to feature city’s Olympic champion Cheung Ka-long
- The likes of Cheung will have a chance to perform in front of home fans in May
- Event to feature men’s and women’s foil competitions and likely to be held at AsiaWorld-Expo

Olympic fencing champion Cheung Ka-long will have a chance to perform on home soil after Hong Kong was announced as host of the foil World Cup in May.
The event’s men’s and women’s competitions will come to the city for the first time after the International Fencing Federation (FIE) chose it as host ahead of Singapore.
The world governing body updated the 2024 calendar to confirm Hong Kong as the last stop in the World Cup series before the Paris Olympics in July. There will be four days of individual and team contests.
Yeung Wing-sun, president of the Hong Kong Fencing Federation, had revealed this week that Hong Kong had offered to take over as host after Mexico and Germany opted not to host the men’s and women’s events respectively.

It is understood that Singapore was also interested, but Yeung said the fact that Hong Kong was already hosting the World Championships in 2026 was instrumental in the FIE’s decision.
Yeung also said the association intended to stage the event at AsiaWorld-Expo in Chek Lap Kok, where Hong Kong hosted the Asian Fencing Championships in 2017.
