Paris Olympics: Hong Kong swimmer Chillingworth backed to break record, qualify for Games
- Sette Colli Trophy in Rome this weekend is Adam Chillingworth’s last chance to make city’s delegation

Hong Kong swimmer Adam Chillingworth is being backed to break a city record in Rome this weekend, and join the list of athletes heading to the Paris Olympics.
The 26-year-old will compete at the Sette Colli Trophy meet in the Italian capital alongside a host of teammates, including Siobhan Haughey and Camille Cheung Lily-mei.
And coach Sonny Trigg said he was “quietly confident” that Chillingworth could hit the Olympic qualifying mark in his favoured 200m breaststroke event.
The Sette Colli, Italy’s Olympic qualifying event, takes place from June 21 to 23 and represents Chillingworth’s last chance at earning a place at what would be his first Games.
“I feel very confident that Adam will swim a new Hong Kong record and faster than he ever has before, whether or not that will be under the qualifying time, I’m quietly confident,” Trigg said.
“It’s a big ask and I hope he puts it together on the day, but nothing’s guaranteed.”
