Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey finished second in the 100 metres freestyle at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome and lost her meet record, too – but it was not a warning sign for the Olympics.

Sarah Sjostrom won the final on Saturday, local time, clocking 52.57 seconds to take 0.07 off the time Haughey swam at last year’s Sette Colli. Haughey came second this time in 52.78, with Britain’s Anna Hopkin third in 53.53.

However, Haughey will not need to worry about Sjostrom at the Paris Olympics, because the Swede, who holds the world record of 51.71, will not swim in the 100m free at the Games.

“It was a good race,” Haughey said. “I was more focused on how to swim than on the time, because I am coming from very intense training.”

Haughey remains the third-fastest woman of all time in the 100m freestyle, having touched the wall in 52.02 at last October’s World Cup leg in Berlin.
