Sun Yingsha wins first Asian Cup singles title, while Wang Chuqin successfully defends crown

China’s women’s team completed clean sweep of medals; Japan’s Harimoto won silver and compatriot Togami won bronze in the men’s singles

Sun Yingsha won her first Asian Cup women’s singles title on Sunday, while her compatriot Wang Chuqin successfully defended his crown.

The five-day 35th ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup concluded in Haikou with the Chinese table tennis team taking both the men’s and women’s singles titles.

The women’s team completed a clean sweep of medals, winning gold, silver and bronze.

In the women’s singles final, the 25-year-old Sun beat Wang Manyu 4-3.

The world No 1 started strong, winning the opening game 11-2. In the second, the score reached 4-4 before Wang stepped up her attack and took it 11-4.

The following four games were shared, sending the match to a decisive seventh game. Sun took the title 13-11.
