CrossFit has whetted the appetite of fans around the world with an exhilarating video of last year’s competition called It’s Games Time. The short Youtube video shows last year’s champions, Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey, during the 2018 CrossFit Games.
The video is filled with slow-motion clips and emotional outbursts as the two athletes work to claim first spot. Fraser can be seen tapping his chest as he walks towards the crowd in first place once again. Another clip shows Toomey waiting in the tunnel before running out into a packed stadium.
The 2019 CrossFit Games is taking place this weekend in Madison, US. It starts on August 1 and continues into next week. Participants’ fitness will be put to the test in a series of challenges that could include anything from weightlifting to running.
Fraser, 29, is going for his fourth straight win at the Games, which would once against earn him the title “Fittest on Earth”. If the American achieved another victory, he would equal the great Rich Froning, who won the Games in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Toomey, 26, took her second “Fittest on Earth” title last year.
“ The first year was such a crazy buzz! I have come to certainly embrace the title and I am very proud to be the fittest woman on earth,” she told the SCMP. “The ladies competition is so fierce at present and that makes the title even more meaningful.”
She came second at the Games in 2015 and 2016. Toomey also won gold in the Commonwealth Games 2018 in weightlifting.
