TransLantau ultra marathon cancelled by organisers, citing Hong Kong’s Covid restrictions
- The 100km race has been cancelled for a 4th consecutive year, with a tightening of government Covid-19 restrictions prompting the latest decision
- ‘We received further restrictions from the government, which makes it too difficult to organise a physical event,’ organisers said in an Instagram post

Hong Kong’s trail running scene has been dealt another blow after organisers of the 2022 TransLantau ultra marathon were left with “no other choice” but to abandon plans for the November event.
A proposal to stage the event over two days has now been abandoned completely, in favour of a “virtual” event that will be held from October 28 to November 18.
The cancellation means the 100km event has been scrapped for a fourth consecutive year, because of protests and then Covid-19 restrictions.

“Due to the recently increasing number of cases of Covid-19 in Hong Kong, we received further restrictions from the government, which makes it too difficult to organise a physical event in 2022,” TransLantau said in an Instagram post.
“We have no other choice but to announce that TransLantau by UTMB 2022 will be converted to a hybrid (virtual) event from October 28 to November 18.”
