Paris Olympics: Siobhan Haughey’s costume could give her an edge, ‘swimsuit nerd’ says
- Coach Sonny Trigg has encouraged Haughey and teammate Ian Ho to switch to the sprint versions of their swimsuits

Siobhan Haughey’s swimsuit could give her the winning edge as her quest for Olympic gold gets under way this weekend, an expert has suggested.
Sonny Trigg worked with members of the Hong Kong swim team on the Mare Nostrum Swim Tour in France and at the Sette Colli Trophy in Italy – two of the final international competitions in which they competed before Paris.
Aside from coaching, Trigg is also known as “The Swimsuit Guy” and has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media, where he “nerds out about swimsuits”.
“I’m really nerdy about the technology that suits have. So with both Siobhan and Ian [Ho Yentou], I’ve told them I don’t understand why they wore the ‘comfortable’ suits,” Trigg said.
“Basically, most brands make a comfy suit and a sprint suit with taping on the hamstrings, which means as you kick downwards, it creates tension, so then it almost springs your leg back.
“Based on my encouragement, both Ian and Siobhan have changed the suit they wear from the more comfy model to the sprint model.”
Sprinter Ho has qualified for the men’s 50 metres and 100m freestyle. Haughey will compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle, the two events in which she won silver at Tokyo 2021.
Haughey is sponsored by Arena and will wear the Aquaforce Storm CP Racing Swimsuit in Paris. Ho could wear the men’s version or the Speedo LZR Pure Valor shorts.
