China’s Li says military training with PLA, being ‘morally good person’ key to Olympic gold

China’s Li Yuehong said training with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and living a good life had been the keys to claiming an Olympic gold.
The 34-year-old, who won bronze at the Games in Rio and Tokyo, finally broke through on Monday to claim his first Olympics title.
Li won gold in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol final with a score of 32, while South Korea’s Cho Yeong-jae claimed silver, scoring 25. Li’s compatriot Wang Xinjie earned bronze with 23.
Li, who’s perfect sixth series earned him a two-point lead in the final, said that he was “extremely happy” but the victory was for his team.
“This has been an incredible experience for me and all my hard work has paid off. I am extremely happy. This is a victory not just for myself but the whole team,” he said.

Last December Li, who won world championship gold in 2022 and 2023, underwent two weeks of military training to help him prepare for the Paris Games.
