It's official. Brazilian jockey Joao Moreira will join the Hong Kong roster from October 17 after the Jockey Club's licensing committee meeting yesterday.
The committee was brought together to confirm Moreira's contract after last week's revelation that the charismatic Singapore-based star would move his base to Sha Tin and become the new regular partner for reigning Hong Kong Mile hero and former dual Horse of the Year Ambitious Dragon.
Moreira, who will turn 30 on Thursday, was the winner of four Sao Paulo championships and more than 1,000 races in South America before shifting to Singapore in 2009.
In the Lion City, he has smashed all records in winning the past three riding titles and will be the premier jockey there again in 2013, despite missing the final 2½ months of the season with his move northeast.
Moreira has advised a minimum riding weight of 114 pounds which will allow him to take rides at the minimum weight.
