Pure weight of numbers make it almost impossible to bet against short-priced favourite Joao Moreira in the Jockey Challenge at Sha Tin on Monday.

Not only is Moreira the only jockey with a mount in every race, no other rider has more than nine rides on the 11 race card.

Then there is the fact each of Moreira’s rides was single figures in early markets and that five or six could start favourite.

That means that even if Moreira has a bad day, he could still ride two or three winners and extra points picked up from placings will be enough to carry him home in the Jockey Challenge.

As usual John Size-trained runners form the backbone of Moreira’s book of rides, with five horses from the leading stable to be ridden by the Brazilian.

The quintet of Amazing Kids, Mr Stunning, Money Boy, Momentum Lucky and Prawn Baba should all start either first or second favourite.

Even though Amazing Kids hasn’t been able to get the better of Lucky Bubbles yet, the five-year-old seems to have improved this season and if he is going to beat his rival then the Group Two Centenary Sprint Cup might be the race.

From his very first start, an electrifying win at Happy Valley last season, Mr Stunning was earmarked as a Group race contender.

The time has come for Mr Stunning to prove his fans right and the four-year-old should win his way out of Class Two with a straight track victory in race six.

Even if Moreira is behind at that point, his final five rides of the day, starting with Money Boy, are strong.

Money Boy’s inexperience showed last start when he was edged out by Five Up High in a photo finish but the three-year-old returns to the same 1,400m with a great chance.

Moreira gets back on Chris So Wai-yin’s Racing Supernova for the first time since winning a Class One on the horse in November to contest an even-looking Chinese New Year Handicap.

Then there is Able Friend, with both Moreira and trainer John Moore adamant that the former horse of the year is getting back to his dominant best in time for the Group One Stewards’ Cup.

Size-trained pair Momentum Lucky and Prawn Baba aren’t Moreira’s best winning hopes, but they should both tally points for top three finishes in the final two races of the day.
