Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Great Renown was switched off nicely in third or fourth along the fence, swept to the lead along the inside at the 220m and proved too good to open the win account for trainer Richard Gibson. Viva Guy went back from a wide gate, stuck to the rails upon straightening and worked home well to snare second. Jolly Wongchoy tracked the leader in second or third, forced six deep at the 250m and kept up a good gallop to just hold off My Way for third. The latter was patiently ridden third from the rear and two off the fence, switched widest out upon straightening and was eating up the ground late. Nordic Star copped a check back to midfield at the 1,250m, straightened four wide and stayed on well to finish just outside the placings. Redoute Star was posted four deep behind midfield, rushed up to go toe-to-toe with Brothers In Arms for the lead at the 750m and came up one-paced over the final 150m. It was a promising effort in defeat off a lengthy absence with lameness issues. Travel Guide was cast deep early on near the speed, before slotting in one off in fourth, rallied five wide upon straightening and was struggling at the 250m. Brothers In Arms was keen to lead the proceedings, was under attack passing the 800m and was laying out and coming back to the field over the last 200m with betting support.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (015) - SHEK O HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650 Meters SOMETHING SPECIAL was slow to begin and had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 200 Metres.

From wide barriers, CLASSIC ENERGY and VIVA GUY were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

In the early and middle stages, REDOUTE STAR travelled wide and without cover and near the 900 Metres was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the rail.

Passing the 50 Metres, the whip of G Cheyne (NORDIC STAR) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of H W Lai (VIVA GUY).

D Whyte (GREAT RENOWN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of HAPPY MASTER, causing that horse to be taken in onto NORDIC STAR which as a result was crowded for room and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

D Whyte was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 26 September 2011 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 18 September 2011.

A veterinary inspection of TRAVEL GUIDE after the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of ELEPHANT CHEERS after the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, ELEPHANT CHEERS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

GREAT RENOWN and VIVA GUY were sent for sampling.
