Recap by phillip woo

Healthy Manner travelled with cover in fourth and one off the fence, rallied four wide upon straightening and wore down Solar Wonder inside the final 100m for the win. Solar Wonder enjoyed the box-seat, swept to the lead 150m out and staved off the late-fancied Young Hero for second. Young Hero travelled worse than midfield and two deep, hit the straight five wide and kept coming late to make it tight at the finish for second. Super Strike made his run underneath Young Hero, was briefly held up behind the tiring pair of Redoute Star and Compact Yarn at the 150m and kept on reasonably well for fourth. He'll be hard to beat over a longer trip with this run under his belt. Vanquish Delight made his run third from the rear, straightened with a couple deeper out and passed tiring runners late. Goldmen Y Y was taken back to last from a wide gate and was running on late without threatening. Favourite Redoute Star rolled forward to lead from gate six with Compact Yarn parked to his outside through honest fractions, hit the front a length on top and was giving ground over the final 150m. Specked late, How Wonderful made his run second from the rear and was never a factor in the straight drive with one wider out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (048) - TAI SHUE WAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800 Meters From wide barriers, VANQUISH DELIGHT and GOLDMEN Y Y were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

When being shifted out around the heels of REDOUTE STAR at the 1000 Metres, SUPER STRIKE became awkward and made contact with COMPACT YARN.

Over the concluding stages, SOLAR WONDER shifted out and came into contact with HEALTHY MANNER.

When questioned, T Clark stated that he was instructed to ride COMPACT YARN near the lead and after taking up a position outside REDOUTE STAR on the first turn, he attempted to steady the pace, however, COMPACT YARN tended to race very keenly with him.

He said that whilst he had the opportunity to restrain and take up a position behind REDOUTE STAR approaching the 1000 Metres, COMPACT YARN was racing too keenly to achieve this and in fact made contact with the hindquarters of REDOUTE STAR as he restrained the horse.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that he was instructed to be positive on REDOUTE STAR and ride the horse in a forward position.

He said that after crossing runners to his inside approaching the winning post on the first occasion, REDOUTE STAR commenced to race keenly and then refused to settle when COMPACT YARN improved to be racing to its outside.

He stated that on a number of occasions in the middle stages COMPACT YARN made contact with the hindquarters of REDOUTE STAR which fired up REDOUTE STAR and as a consequence the horse would not relax.

He said because of this REDOUTE STAR did not finish off its race and weakened in the Straight.

Following the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HOW WONDERFUL at the request of Trainer A T Millard.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horses trachea.

A veterinary inspection of GOLDMEN Y Y and REDOUTE STAR after the race did not show any significant findings.

REDOUTE STAR, HEALTHY MANNER and SOLAR WONDER were sent for sampling.
