Recap by phillip woo
Fortune Together was taken back from a wide gate to settle second from the rear, still only had a couple beaten while straightening six deep and quickened nicely at the 150m to win going away 50m out for a maiden win at his 14th start. Diamond Rainbow sat comfortably in fourth and one off the fence behind the leading group, worked to a narrow lead five wide at the 120m and found one better on the evening. Favourite Longwah Kid stayed on well to fill a placing to the delight of exotic players. Par Excellence was niggled to hold second in the run and one off the fence behind the leader Gold Winner, poked his head in front four wide at the 200m and grudgingly gave way over the final 100m. Brilliant One got going late when the race was all but over. Rocket Proud was always off the track behind midfield, swung the final bend widest out and loomed a chance before peaking 100m out. Star Legend enjoyed the box-seat run, straightened three deep and only held his ground over the final 150m under an aggressive drive. Wiser made his run at the rear and had to be taken a hold of at the 120m when making a decent bid late near the inside between runners. Surfer Boy was caught three deep without cover in midfield, put in his bid rounding the final bend six wide to nearly hit the front at the 200m and blew up 100m out. Gold Winner was struggling under a left whip over the final 150m.
