Recap by phillip woo

Fortune Together was taken back from a wide gate to settle second from the rear, still only had a couple beaten while straightening six deep and quickened nicely at the 150m to win going away 50m out for a maiden win at his 14th start. Diamond Rainbow sat comfortably in fourth and one off the fence behind the leading group, worked to a narrow lead five wide at the 120m and found one better on the evening. Favourite Longwah Kid stayed on well to fill a placing to the delight of exotic players. Par Excellence was niggled to hold second in the run and one off the fence behind the leader Gold Winner, poked his head in front four wide at the 200m and grudgingly gave way over the final 100m. Brilliant One got going late when the race was all but over. Rocket Proud was always off the track behind midfield, swung the final bend widest out and loomed a chance before peaking 100m out. Star Legend enjoyed the box-seat run, straightened three deep and only held his ground over the final 150m under an aggressive drive. Wiser made his run at the rear and had to be taken a hold of at the 120m when making a decent bid late near the inside between runners. Surfer Boy was caught three deep without cover in midfield, put in his bid rounding the final bend six wide to nearly hit the front at the 200m and blew up 100m out. Gold Winner was struggling under a left whip over the final 150m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (124) - PAK WO HANDICAP (Sec 2) - Class 4 - 1200 Meters WISER was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, SMART FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of GOLD WINNER which was taken out by PAR EXCELLENCE.

From the outside barrier, FORTUNE TOGETHER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

After the 900 Metres, LONGWAH KID became unbalanced and lost ground when reluctant to maintain its position to the inside of SMART FORTUNE.

Near the 450 Metres, CHINA GOOD and ROCKET PROUD bumped as CHINA GOOD shifted to the outside of SMART FORTUNE.

Near the 200 Metres, LONGWAH KID momentarily raced in restricted room between PAR EXCELLENCE and DIAMOND RAINBOW.

Near the 150 Metres, CHINA GOOD was steadied when crowded for room between ROCKET PROUD and FORTUNE TOGETHER which shifted out into clear running.

W M Lai (BRILLIANT ONE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WISER, causing that horse to be checked and lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

W M Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 21 November 2011 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

This suspension shall commence on Monday, 14 November 2011 on which day W M Lai was due to resume race riding from a suspension incurred at the Sha Tin racemeeting last Wednesday, 19 October 2011.

In addition, W M Lai was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday.

When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng (SURFER BOY) stated that passing the 900 Metres he attempted to shift in to a one-off position behind SMART FORTUNE.

He said however at this time SURFER BOY commenced to over-race and he was not able to shift the horse in behind SMART FORTUNE and consequently travelled three wide and without cover for the remainder of the race.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SMART FORTUNE was found to have dislodged an incisor tooth.

A veterinary inspection of GOLD WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings.
