Recap by phillip woo

California Memory was unhurried at the rear of the field, stayed to the inside upon straightening and was improving along the rails without a clear run, shifted off a tiring Able One at the 100m and finished off brilliantly to get up in the final few metres for the win off a big weight. He's a true star and will be competitive in any race over a mile to 2,400m. Early favourite Xtension settled fifth and one-off the fence, rounded the final bend five wide, swept to the lead 100m out from stablemate Able One and was pipped near the line. Thumbs Up covered ground with some cover three deep and fourth from the rear after a sluggish break, swung the final bend with one wider out and finished off willingly to make it close at the finish for second. It was a big effort off a lengthy break and he remains a hard one to pen over a mile. Able One rolled to the front from gate 10, was allowed to dictate a pace to his own liking, was pestered at the 800m by Sight Winner, straightened a length on top and gave way 100m out under top weight. He will come on for this run. Late-fancied favourite, Sichuan Success settled midfield and on the rails, straightened short of room three deep behind Sight Winner at the 200m, dipped inside at the 150m and got going nicely late when the race was all over. Beauty Flash saved ground in third along the rails, shifted three deep and bumped Sight Winner at the 200m and kept on only evenly over the final 100m. Irian made his run behind midfield and on the rails after a sluggish break, shifted his way into the clear five wide off a tiring Flying Blue and made some progress.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (137) - THE SHA TIN TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Hong Kong Group Two - 1600 Meters XTENSION and CALIFORNIA MEMORY bumped at the start.

After the 1400 Metres, SICHUAN SUCCESS and XTENSION made contact as XTENSION shifted in.

Near the 1100 Metres, FLYING BLUE got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle.

After the 1000 Metres, CERISE CHERRY was left racing wide and without cover.

Near the 500 Metres, CALIFORNIA MEMORY was hampered when attempting a run between IRIAN and KING DANCER where there was insufficient room.

SICHUAN SUCCESS was badly held up for clear running until after the 200 Metres.

Near the 100 Metres, BEAUTY FLASH was awkwardly placed close to the heels of XTENSION when taken out by CALIFORNIA MEMORY (M Chadwick).

M Chadwick was advised to ensure that he makes every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in future.

After this, CALIFORNIA MEMORY got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of FLYING BLUE after the race did not show any significant findings.

SICHUAN SUCCESS, CALIFORNIA MEMORY and XTENSION were sent for sampling.
