Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite New Vision rated nicely in fifth and one-off the fence, cruised to the lead four deep at the 200m and edged clear for a cosy win off a light weight with the step up in grade. He remains one to follow. Easy Winner made his run second from the rear and two deep, switched into the clear six deep at the 250m and overpowered Majestic Falcon and Fulfil A Wish in a blanket finish for second. Majestic Falcon bided his time behind midfield with cover two deep, rounded the final bend five wide and finish up well. He is improving with racing and will be a leading chance over 1,400m or mile next time out. Fulfil A Wish made his run in fifth along the fence, bumped the running rail passing the 800m, shifted five wide at the 350m and made up some steady ground late to come up just short of the placings. Bullish Champion set a reasonable clip on the lead, straightened a length on top and looked a solid place chance, before stopping badly on his run 50m out. Treasure Gold saved ground behind midfield and along the paint, took the shortest route home around straightening and made some minor headway late. Amigo enjoyed the box-seat run and was giving ground 150m out with every chance. Pretty One was snagged back, swung the final bend with two wider out and was struggling with a step up in trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eleven: (138) - CHUN SHEK HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400 Meters HORACE!|S EMPIRE, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, was slow to begin.

TREASURE GOLD was crowded for room at the start between NEW VISION and EASY WINNER which shifted out.

From a wide barrier, FLYING TOGETHER got its head up when being steadied with a view to shifting across behind runners.

Near the 1200 Metres, FULFIL A WISH and AMIGO bumped as AMIGO improved to be racing inside the heels of CLEARLY SILVER.

Near the 1100 Metres, AMIGO raced in restricted room between FULFIL A WISH and CLEARLY SILVER.

After this, CLEARLY SILVER was shifted out to relieve the tightening to runners on its inside.

Prior to the 800 Metres, AMIGO, which was proving difficult to settle, raced in restricted room inside BULLISH CHAMPION and after the 800 Metres was steadied away from the heels of that horse.

The performances of NEEDLES AND THREAD and FLYING TOGETHER, which both finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, NEEDLES AND THREAD and FLYING TOGETHER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Throughout the race, JUMBO GOLD and NEEDLES AND THREAD travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, K C Leung reported that after being taken towards the rear from the wide barrier, PRETTY ONE then travelled keenly throughout the event and for this reason was then not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of PRETTY ONE after the race did not show any significant findings.

An inquiry into the reason for FULFIL A WISH being checked near the 1000 Metres was adjourned until a date to be fixed.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FULFIL A WISH had lost its left front plate.

NEW VISION and EASY WINNER were sent for sampling.

Adjourned Inquiry - 23 October 2011 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 10 (119) The Stewards today concluded their inquiry into Jockey J Lloyd!|s handling of PACKING OK in this race.

Further evidence was today taken from Jockey Lloyd with evidence also being taken from Mr J Moore, the trainer of PACKING OK, Mr F C Lor, assistant trainer allocated to Mr Moore, Owner Mr Raymond Lee Man Chun and Mr Patrick Lee Wan Keung, father of Mr Raymond Lee.

Mr Moore advised the Stewards that as he was not present at the racemeeting, he had conveyed to Jockey Lloyd that he did not anticipate that the race would be run at a good tempo and therefore PACKING OK should obtain a position in or near the lead.

He said however that if it eventuated that there was more speed in the race than he anticipated, Jockey Lloyd should obtain a position in 3rd or 4th with cover if possible.

Mr Lor advised the Stewards that it was his understanding that PACKING OK would be ridden in a forward position towards the lead in this race.

Mr Raymond Lee advised the Stewards that as he was not available to be present at the racemeeting, he had asked his father to represent his interests at the racemeeting.

Mr Patrick Lee advised the Stewards that he had formed the view that horses being ridden in the lead or towards the rail were not suited by the pattern of racing on that day, therefore he instructed Jockey Lloyd to have the horse in 4th or 5th position with cover if possible.

He stated that he also had observed that runners positioned wider on the track in the Straight were being advantaged, therefore he asked Jockey Lloyd to bring PACKING OK to the outside in the Straight.

He also added that as PACKING OK was carrying top weight in this race, he did not think the horse would be advantaged by being ridden near the lead.

When made aware of the Rule of Racing requiring that an owner must give his instructions through the trainer, Mr Lee advised that as Mr Moore was not present at the racemeeting, he did not feel that it was available to him to fulfil his obligation in this respect and it was for this reason that he gave his instructions directly to the jockey.

After viewing the video, Mr Moore stated that, in his opinion, PACKING OK would have been best served being allowed to stride forward to sit outside the leader, ABSOLUTE HEDGE rather than continuing to race in a three wide position given the circumstances of the race.

After considering all of the circumstances of this case, the Stewards took no action other than to remind both Mr Raymond Lee and Mr Patrick Lee of their obligations under the Rules in respect of the giving of instructions.

They were further advised that, in any event, such instructions must provide jockeys of horses owned by them with the flexibility to adapt to the circumstances of any given race.
