Recap by phillip woo

Well-punted late, Bullish Champion crossed easily to lead from gate 13 with Touch Go prompting an even pace, straightened nearly a length on top and kept extending the margin over the final 200m for a cosy win with a key step back in trip. King Mossman enjoyed the box-seat run, was shaken up three deep upon straightening, wore down Touch Go for second at the 150m and stayed on well to be a clear second. Punted late, Pizzazz settled behind midfield and just off the rails, peeled six wide upon straightening and nailed Longwah Supreme in the final few metres for third. Short-priced favourite, Longwah Supreme was a bit keen while travelling one-off the fence in fourth, straightened four deep and failed to let down under the big weight. Time After Time was caught four deep in midfield, swung the final bend widest out and kept coming late to make it tight for third with a step up in grade. Touch Go sat outside the leader after getting over from gate 14, straightened two deep and couldn't keep up the gallop over the final 120m. He is honest but is a better Class Three prospect. Chater Mikado made his run at or second from the rear after a sluggish break, stayed to the inside upon straightening and only worked passed tiring runners with plenty of money in the dying seconds before the jump.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (166) - PANASONIC NANOCARE HEALTH SERIES HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1200 Meters CHATER MIKADO was slow to begin.

TUSCAN SPIRIT shifted out at the start, resulting in ROYAL FLUSH, TIME AFTER TIME and PERFECT GEAR all being badly crowded for room inside JUMBO GOLD which itself became unbalanced when bumped by PERFECT GEAR.

In the early stages, ROYAL FLUSH proved very difficult to settle and for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover.

Approaching the 900 Metres, LONGWAH SUPREME got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING MOSSMAN.

Near the 850 Metres, TUSCAN SPIRIT was checked when crowded for room between GOLDEN BAUHINIA which was taken out by LONGWAH SUPREME which got its head on the side and shifted out and ROYAL FLUSH (B Doyle) which shifted in.

B Doyle was advised that there was a contributing shift from the inside of TUSCAN SPIRIT in this incident, however, he had permitted ROYAL FLUSH to shift in when not clear of TUSCAN SPIRIT.

He was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.

Passing the 700 Metres, LONGWAH SUPREME was steadied away from the heels of TOUCH GO.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHATER MIKADO, B Prebble stated that as is usual, CHATER MIKADO travelled towards the rear of the field.

He said CHATER MIKADO travelled only fairly during the race and at the entrance to the Straight was shifted to the inside of SUPER BOY when disappointed for running between that horse and TUSCAN SPIRIT.

He said after this CHATER MIKADO did not close off its race as strongly as it had at Happy Valley at its most recent start when successful.

He added, in his opinion, CHATER MIKADO appeared to race better at Happy Valley than Sha Tin.

A veterinary inspection of CHATER MIKADO after the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on ROYAL FLUSH at the request of Trainer A T Millard.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL FLUSH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

LONGWAH SUPREME, BULLISH CHAMPION and KING MOSSMAN were sent for sampling.

9 November 2011 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 8 (156) The Stewards today interviewed Mr L Ho, the trainer of HOLLYWOOD KISS, regarding the tactics adopted on that horse in this race.

Mr Ho confirmed that when HOLLYWOOD KISS raced at Sha Tin on 30 October 2011, he had instructed the rider to obtain the fence and lead if possible.

He said he gave these instructions as he was of the view that HOLLYWOOD KISS races best when able to lead in its races and, in his opinion, did not appreciate travelling behind other horses.

He said after this race he received email advice from the managing part-owner of HOLLYWOOD KISS informing him that the horse had raced well prior to being imported into Hong Kong when being ridden from off the pace.

He said after discussing this matter with the owners of HOLLYWOOD KISS, it was decided that the horse should be ridden behind the leaders in this race if circumstances permitted.

He added that it was felt that AMITYSHIP may lead the race which would provide HOLLYWOOD KISS the opportunity to race behind that horse.

Mr Ho said that although it had been decided for the horse to be ridden in this manner, he did have some reservations as to whether HOLLYWOOD KISS may have been better suited by being able to lead the race.

He said that he instructed Apprentice T H So, the rider of HANDSOME ZULU, which he also trains and which was engaged in the same race, to ride that horse in a similar manner to when it was successful at Happy Valley last season.

He said on that occasion HANDSOME ZULU was successful when ridden behind the leaders.

He said he therefore felt that HOLLYWOOD KISS would be able to obtain a position on the fence behind the leader with HANDSOME ZULU to its outside.

Mr Ho added said that immediately after the race he had discussed the manner in which HOLLYWOOD KISS should be ridden in the future and he reiterated to the owners that, in his opinion, HOLLYWOOD KISS is somewhat one-paced and therefore it is better suited to leading on the rail if possible.

He said that the owners concurred with this view and therefore it is intended for the horse to be ridden in this manner if possible in the immediate future.
