Recap by phillip woo

Punted late, Young Hero bided his time behind midfield and two deep, rounded the final bend with one wider out and out-dashed Supreme Tycoon to reach the front 20m out for an overdue win. Supreme Tycoon was travelled a position ahead of Young Hero in midfield and one off the fence, rounded the final bend in the centre of the track and stayed on real well off a light weight. Juggernaut enjoyed the box-seat run, straightened three deep and kept plugging away late to hold third ahead of the rallying favourite Spandau Ballet, who made his run at the rear of the field, pushed widest out at the 350m and was getting going late. Compact Yarn travelled in a one-out, one-back spot, rounded the final bend five deep and kept on evenly over the final 100m. Victory Ide Say travelled three back and along the rails, loomed a place chance near the inside at the 200m and came up flat over the final 100m. Stolen Thunder made his run second from the rear and two deep, before making some ground late without threatening. Billion went an even clip on the speed while pressured to his outside by Prosperity, hit the straight four deep and nearly a length on top and was stopping 100m out. Zephyrus was squeezed out at the start and made his run third from the rear and along the rails, straightened closest the rails and never a threat. Goldmen Y Y was never to obtain cover fourth from the rear and a beaten runner soon after straightening.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (171) - MORSE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800 Meters FELAROF was withdrawn on 15.11.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter COMPACT YARN (N Callan).

Before being allowed to race again, FELAROF will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Shortly after the start, ZEPHYRUS was steadied away from the heels of VICTORY IDE SAY which shifted out.

From a wide barrier, GOLDMEN Y Y was taken across behind runners shortly after the start, then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPREME TYCOON was steadied away from the heels of COMPACT YARN when being shifted in behind that horse to obtain cover.

After being steadied approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, BILLION proved difficult to settle.

Approaching the 400 Metres, COMPACT YARN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PROSPERITY.

At the entrance to the Straight, JUGGERNAUT and PROSPERITY bumped as JUGGERNAUT attempted to shift to the outside of BILLION.

Near the 300 Metres, COMPACT YARN and SUPREME TYCOON bumped.

When questioned, Apprentice C Y Ho (SPANDAU BALLET) stated that he had been instructed to position his mount in midfield if possible from barrier 9.

He said SUPREME TYCOON, which was drawn to his inside, was ridden along out of the barriers to obtain a forward position and therefore he shifted SPANDAU BALLET across behind that horse.

He said after travelling a short distance, he observed that FORTUNE COOKIE had obtained a position one horse off the fence behind YOUNG HERO.

He said he then elected to shift his mount across behind FORTUNE COOKIE as he believed that FORTUNE COOKIE would be required to remain one horse off the fence as ZEPHYRUS was positioned to that horse!|s inside.

He added he made this decision as he felt that his mount would be left racing in a three wide position were he to remain to the outside of FORTUNE COOKIE.

He said however that passing the winning post on the first occasion ZEPHYRUS, after racing tight inside FORTUNE COOKIE, was steadied by its rider to allow FORTUNE COOKIE to cross to the fence.

He said for these reasons SPANDAU BALLET raced further back in the field than had been intended.

A veterinary inspection of GOLDMEN Y Y after the race revealed the horse to have sustained an abrasion to the back of the left hind fetlock.

SPANDAU BALLET, YOUNG HERO and SUPREME TYCOON were sent for sampling.
